Christopher Phillips Obituary

Christopher Dubree Phillips, died July 5, 2018 at the age of 47. Chris was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1971 while his dad was stationed there in the Army. He grew up in Savannah, attending Hancock Day School and Hesse Elementary until 6th grade. He attended and graduated from Savannah Country Day School in 1989 and thereafter graduated from Northwestern University in 1993. After obtaining his CPA, Chris practiced accounting for about 6 years. Chris then decided to become an attorney and attended University of Georgia Law School. Chris was admitted to practice in October 2002. He began practice with his dad but was selected to be the staff attorney for the Honorable Lamar W. Davis, Jr., Judge of Bankruptcy Court. After his term was up, Chris moved to Atlanta where he specialized in bankruptcy law.

While in Atlanta, Chris met Lucil Truong, whom he married in 2008. Chris and Lucil have two beautiful daughters, Jolie and Mia. In addition to his immediate family, Chris is survived by his parents, Dianna and Bobby and Sheila Phillips, his brother Boone (Jessica), his sister Allison Mol (Eric), his mother-in-law Julia Lewis, his aunt Michelle Dubree Howell, and cousin Megan Howell Long, his Uncle Paul and Aunt Debbie Phillips, cousins Samantha Johnson, Jamie Phillips, and Stacye Kinard Phillips.

Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Renie Phillips, and Odell and Gene Dubree, by his Aunt Olivia Gene Dubree, and his Aunt Sharon Phillips Cook.

Chris died of ALD, a devastating disease, which also took the life of his younger brother Creighton at age 6 in 1980. Despite being aware of the presence of the disease in his body, Chris lived a full life for as long as he could. He sired two daughters, who were the light of his life to the very end. He took extreme pleasure in reading to them, teaching them to play chess and instilling an intellectual curiosity that is sure to be the essence of their being. Chris loved his girls and inspired them to be travelers and explorers in life.

Chris will be missed by all who knew and loved him, by family and special friends Josh Larned and Daniel Sims. Chris was a special person, a sweet soul, and a kind and gentle man.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church.

I am very sorry to hear about Chris's death. I just recently learned of it through the Northwestern Magazine. I was one of Chris's roommates during our freshman year together at Northwestern University. Chris was friendly, well-liked and I enjoyed my time with him. I learned much about music from him, and he was a good roommate. I see that he lived a full life and showed great courage in facing his illness, which comes as no surprise to me. I will keep him and your family in my prayers.
