the 16th hole has and never will be the same. mackey defined the term distinguished composure as he spoke above an intoxicated crowd, maintaining augusta national decorum year after year. today's master's patrons haven't had the pleasure of mackey announcing and introducing the golfers as they approached the 16th green. in a bygone era, mackey was as much a part of the 16th as chi chi walking up the wrong side of the pond to the green. i hope the national will recognize mackey in some form. god bless all the family and friends. a true southern gentleman has once again passed.

I had the priviledge of knowing Mackey and always looked forward to his visits to West Virginia. He had a twinkle in his eye and a gentleness of spirit made being near him special. I wish his family love and comfort and know that he is on a "heavenly" course and at peace.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of Mackey Mulherin. I met Mackey through my employment as John Fleming's secretary. Every now and then Mackey would stop by the office for a visit. While awaiting Mr. Fleming's arrival he reminiscenced, telling me stories of the past. Mackey also had knowledge of previous residents and some history pertaining to my home, before being purchased by my parents in 1963 when I was six years old. His visits were a joy and it brought me great pleasure. He was truly a kind and gentle man.
My prayers are with you.

I had the fortuitous honor of Mackey’s company on several occasions (including a round of Golf and a beautiful fall weekend in the West Virginia Mountains). We meet many people in this journey we call life but only a handful generate immediate respect and admiration. Mackey was one of these people to me. In the short time I knew Mackey, I recognized and appreciated the similitude. God be with you at Heavens Sixteenth Green.
