Pamela Parker Obituary

Pamela Elizabeth Parker - SAVANNAH - Pamela Elizabeth Parker, 53, passed away in an accident on Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Greenwood, South Carolina. Pam was born in Savannah, Georgia on April 4, 1963 to Margaret Mary Brown Parker (deceased) and John Walter Parker, Jr. As a young child she lived in Montana and Maidenhead, England. She attended Catholic Schools in Savannah graduating from St. James Catholic School in 1976 and was a gold honor cord graduate of St. Vincent's Academy in 1980. Pam continued her education at Armstrong State College graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a triple minor in Public Administration, Psychology and Spanish. Committed to her alma mater she served on the Armstrong State University Alumni Board of Directors and supported the Margaret Mary Brown Parker Scholarship which honored her mother's service to Armstrong. Pam later earned her MBA in 1994 from Georgia Southern University. Pam was a life-long banker holding countless leadership roles in the Savannah market. Pam most recently served as the Senior Vice President of Ameris Bank (formerly Coastal Bank). She served in various capacities at: SunTrust; National Bank of Commerce; Wachovia Bank; Bank South; AmeriBank; and Family Credit Services. Pam was a community leader who answered the call to raise awareness or funds whenever necessary. Most recently Pam served a key role on the Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Capital Campaign Committee and sponsored an annual scholar athlete scholarship for a BSS middle school student. Pam was currently volunteering her time as a Junior Achievement instructor at Benedictine Military School. She decided to accept the challenge of teaching high schoolers money management after teaching the program for numerous years to middle schoolers at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School. Her other community leadership positions included: President of Rotary Club Savannah West; Cabinet Campaign Chair of the United Way of Coastal Empire; Chairperson of Savannah Area Board of Realtors Commercial Council; Member of Realtors Commercial Alliance of Savannah/Hilton Head; Chair of CrimeStoppers; and Leadership Savannah. Pam's true passion was training and competing with her beloved labs- Sammer, Indy, and Chapel. Her labs competed in AKC obedience trials placing at the highest levels. Her youngest lab, Chapel, was on track to meet the same standards of excellence as his predecessors. She socialized her labs by training them as reading ambassadors appearing at local libraries and festivals. Canine competition led to many enduring relationships, but most importantly, the friendship of the Bow Wow Girls- a tightknit group of friends who enjoyed competing with their animals. To Pam, family was everything. Pam is survived by: father, John W. Parker, Jr.; brother, J. Keith Parker (Diane Ciucevich Parker); beloved nephew, John Edward Jed Parker; grandmother, Esther Ryan Brown (Edward J. Brown, Jr.- deceased); uncle Edward J. Brown III (Jan); aunt Kathleen Brown Higgs (Michael); aunt Kathleen Kenney Brown; aunt Billie Lee; uncle Jerry Parker (Lynn); numerous cousins of the Brown, Browne, Higgs, Hallas, Lee, Orcutt, Ryan and Parker families. Visitation will be Sunday, October 16, 2016, 4:00 to 6:00 PM; Rosary, Sunday, October 16, 2016, 6:00 PM; Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 17, 2016, 11:00 AM. All services will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitefield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406. Final interment- Catholic Cemetery 1720 Wheaton Street, Savannah, GA 31404.
