Patrick Ertel Obituary

Patrick D. Ertel - BEAUFORT, SC - Patrick D. Ertel, 67 passed away March 15, 2015. A celebration of Patrick's life will occur at his final resting place, on the University of Notre Dame's campus, during the weekend of October 17th, 2015, so that family and friends from across the country may share his greatest joys in his honor: good beer, great stories, the Golden Dome, and, if luck will have it, an Irish victory. Nancy and Girls, just learned of Pats passing. So very sorry for your loss of a dear Husband and wonderful Father. Many memories of very special times spent watching our Daughters and the Irish. Hugs to you all. RIP dear Pat.

The Loughman family sends their sincere condolences to the Ertel family. Our friendship with Pat goes way back to when he became our two daughters' soccer coach. He was a superb mentor as a coach but also as a leader and a friend. We were close to the Ertels throughout the years as our girls grew up and went away to college. We consider it an honor to have known him and have him be such a positive role model for our daughters.
With love,
John, Bonnie,Cathy and Kerry

I was shocked and saddened today to find out about the passing of Pat Ertel, a Royerton High School classmate of mine. While organizing our 50th class reunion and getting responses from so many who will attend, we were all looking forward to seeing each other. I will miss being able to see Pat after all these years. May God give his family strength and consolation knowing that he touched so many lives in a positive way in his lifetime. Prayers go out to his wife and children and a Hail Mary that Pat is now conversing with Our Lady personally in Heaven.

Our deepest sympathies to the Ertel family and Pat always had a smile and good heart and a sincere love for Notre Dame!! Such a fine man and a calling much too soon. Thanks for also giving us our precious daughter in law Bailey to my son Wilson - soon to be proud parents and continue the legacy!

To the family of Pat,,,,,I was a freshman on the varsity football team at Royerton High School when Pat was a senior. I started at db and had good speed and size for a freshman. The starting qb went down with a concussion with three games to go in the season and the very next game the back up qb broke his ankle. So as a freshman I was now the starting quarterback for the last two games of the year. Pat was the center and good size for our school and conference we played in. We were not very good w/l wise, but to Pat's credit and size our best offensive play was the qb sneak,,,I carried the ball and 10% of the work and you guessed it right,,,,Pat carried the load!! More importantly he treated me like a senior not a freshman and his leadership by example had a lasting impression on me. I need not tell you what you already know,,,but Pat was a great young man and because of the example I talked about above had influence on the development of us young players on the team. To say the least we looked up to him both on and off the field. I ended up playing college basketball and became a teacher/coach/principal/and retired as school superintendent. I think I was a better person and all the above professional positions due to the influence of many people,,,,of which one was Pat. Have not seen or talk to Pat since high school and I feel bad about that,,,so in some some way I hope this message can ease some of your sorrow on losing such a great man.

PS. My dad was John Stebbins,,,Pat's high school principal,,,,and I know from what/how my dad would talk about the older boys in the school that Pat was one of his all time favorite students.

To the Ertl family
We were stunned and saddened to hear of Pat's passing. Although it's been quite a few years since we've been in contact, your family has continued to dwell fondly in our minds and hearts. Bailey and Amy literally grew up together while playing for NSA.
Throughout that time, Pat lovingly coached the girls in their defensive positions. Off the field, Pat treated our daughter as if she were one of his own. We are so grateful that we were able to share so many years with you and your family. We will carry those memories with us for the rest of our days.
Fondly,
the Walsh family
