DAVID ESCAMILLA Obituary
DAVID GUERRERO ESCAMILLA Age 76, passed away into the arms of his Savior, Jesus, on May 3, 2010. He was born October 5, 1933, in San Bernardino, and was a lifelong resident of Rialto, and an active faithful member of St. Thomas More Church, now known as Blessed John XXIII. He graduated from San Bernardino Hi gh School in 1952 and began his civil service career at Norton Air Force Base on June 16, 1952, in the tank radiator repair shop. Over the years David was recognized for his outstanding job performance and received many awards, including Civilian manager of the year in March of 1987. He retired as a motor Vehicle Operator Foreman-Load Master on November 1, 1988, after 36 years of civil service. He also served in the United States Army from June 1953 and was honorably discharged on May 20, 1955. David's love of baseball is what introduced him to the love of his life. While running to catch a fly ball, David ran into a fence. Bruised and bleeding from the impact, David looked into the stands to see who was laughing at him and there she was, Betty Lou Griffin. The two married on June 30, 1956, after Betty graduated from Pacific High School and enjoyed 49 beautiful years together. Rarely was one seen without the other, until Betty's death in December of 2005. Everything in David's life was done with passion, incl uding fishing, gardening, cooking and serving the Lord in every aspect of his life. He had a rich and busy church life serving as president of the Men's Club, active in the Blue Army, and together David and Betty hosted many small faith groups in their home. A dear friend and fellow parish member said, "David was the best example of a man of faith; good to his wife, family and friends." David will be deeply missed and will always be remembered for his unshakable trust in the Lord and for his unselfish, ca ring and giving spirit. His generous heart and soul will live on in all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His wife, Betty, and both parents, Pompello Bargas and Jessie Guerrero Escamilla, preceded David in death. He is survived by his six children, Dennis Escamilla, Debbie Adams and her husband, Randall, Darlene Marshall, David Mark and his wife, Brandy Escamilla, Dana Havelka and Donnell Escamilla; 12 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. A celebration of David's life will begin with a Rosary a t 7 P.M. on Monday, May 17th and Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, May 18th at Blessed John XXIII, 222 East Easton Street in Rialto.
