Mary Jane Hindman, 89, of Hallton Hill Road, Pine Grove, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
Born on Sept. 17, 1931, in Cressona, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Mease Breininger.
She was a 1949 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School, 1954 graduate of Albert Einstein School of Nursing, Philadelphia, with an RN degree, and a 1971 graduate of Lebanon Valley College with a BS in Nursing.
Mary Jane was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.
She was an RN for the Good Samaritan Hospital in Pottsville and, in the early 1970s, was a school nurse for the Pine Grove Area School District, until she retired in 1994.
Mary Jane was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, having belonged to the Mary E. Moore Chapter, Cressona Chapter and Orwigsburg Chapter. She was Worthy Matron in 1974-1975, 1994-1995, 2000-2001 and 2012-2013 and was the Grand Rep to Massachusetts in 2005 and 2006.
She loved watching college basketball, traveling with her husband, reading and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State fan.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 50 years, Gene C. Hindman Sr., in 2004; a great-grandson, Joshua Hiester; two brothers, Quentin Breininger and Robert Breininger; two sisters, Mildred Breininger-Hawkins and Judy Kanish.
Surviving are her two sons, Gene "Skip" Jr. and wife, Penny Hindman, and Mark and wife, Pam Hindman, both of Pine Grove; a daughter, Paula and husband, Kevin Lord, of Lake Wynonah; seven grandchildren, Hope Hiester, Jason Hindman, Gina Hindman, Christopher Smith, Jade Andikoetxea, Emily Hindman and Ethan Hindman; 12 great-grandchildren, Katrina, Kelsey, Kaleb, Kolt, Kinley, Kellan, Aiden, Finley, Dylan, Lily, Matthew and Ronan; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 312 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Brian Beissel officiating, following an Eastern Star Service at the church. There will be a viewing from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the church. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to either the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the Hillside SPCA, P.O.
