Marilyn Tilbury Obituary

HAMPTON - Marilyn Jane (Atkinson) Tilbury slipped away gracefully from this world on Monday, April 27, 2020. She joins her husband of 58 years, Don Tilbury in heaven. Marilyn, Auntie Bunny, Nana, was born on May 13, 1936 in Ipswich, Mass., to the late Mabel and Harold Atkinson.

She leaves her four children, April West, Southampton, Mass., Holly Elkins, Kittery, Maine, Matt Tilbury, Kittery, Maine, Andy Tilbury, Exeter, N.H.; six grandchildren, Erica Graham, Jasmine and Melanie Elkins, Adam and Greyson Tilbury, CJ West; and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws and dear friends with many sweet memories.

Marilyn was a baker of pies, creator of wedding cakes, crossword puzzle queen, domino and Tonk player, a bunny lover and bird watcher. She was a flower gardener, piano player and choir soprano. She kept notes and ledgers for church committees, laughingly modeled in the church rummage show and her hair was perfect. She loved lobster rolls and took road trips for Ipswich fried clams. She never missed sending a birthday card. Family memories include hiking Mt. Major for blueberry picking and summer days at Crane's Beach searching for sand dollars. Marilyn was always beautifully dressed and had a hug for everybody. She loved to be the hostess. The Tilbury house was the family gathering place for every holiday and Nana was the anchor. Sunny Memorial Day annual parties were attended by family and friends from far and wide. Marilyn has an extensive church family through the Hampton United Methodist Church where she will be sadly missed. She practiced her faith daily.

SERVICES: The family will hold a private burial service in May. A memorial service will be held at the church once it is safe to do so.

Memorial contributions can be made to the United Methodist Women at 575 Lafayette Rd., Hampton, NH 03842. Assistance with arrangement was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Please visit www.RemickGendron.com to view Marilyn's memorial website and sign his tribute wall.

I was terribly saddened to read about Marilyn's passing. She was so incredibly sweet. I looked forward to seeing Marilyn and Don whenever we were able to coordinate a family get together, through my parents (Herbert and Margarita Woodworth), when I was young. And more recently, we were so fortunate to have a "cousins reunion" when my brother (Warren) and I were up in New Hampshire in June of 2019. My sincerest condolences to her children and respective families.

My sincerest sympathies go out to the Tilbury family and I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Mrs. Tilbury was one of the sweetest and most gentle souls I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will never forget all of the incredible desserts she made for a second round of Thanksgiving and Christmas desserts every year. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

God bless...

So soft spoken, always caring and ready with a kind word. Truly a beautiful person who's loss will be felt by many. My heart goes out to Marilyn's family at the loss of this treasure of a lady.

A wonderful lady. I was disappointed that our daughter did not want a wedding cake so that we could have Marilyn make it for us. She had a great laugh and understanding of humanity. I was privileged to have known her.

I have always been impressed by the presence of Marilyn Tilbury. She was flawless in her appearance. possessed a loving heart and sang like an angel. She and Don were special friends of my parents Ell and Milly Frye. My Mom is now almost 96 and it will be difficult to share the passing of Marilyn with her. May you and Don share your music as part of Heaven's choir now Marilyn. Rest in peace.
