Brian Peterson Obituary

Brian Scott PETERSON "Petey" "Butch" "B-Man" September 19, 1961 ~ May 11, 2009 Resident of Tacoma, WA. At the end of March, 2009, Brian was diagnosed with kidney cancer. With courage and grace he fought it, but several weeks later, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Tacoma. The youngest of four, he was born to Orville and Donna Peterson. He will forever be adored by his loving sisters and their spouses - Fritz & Lynda Paulsen, Leslie & Jeff Belmondo and Sal & Barbara Dena. And by Brian's beautiful daughters, Kelsie and Kaitlin, their mother Denise and their extended family. He is survived by countless nieces and nephews, cousins, aunt and uncle who were blessed to know him. A newlywed - he married Lori-Ann, the love of his life, on Cinco de Mayo - 2009 and became a stepdad to Corbin and son-in-law to John & Pauline Gepner. Brian was born and raised in Renton, WA and was a Renton High Class of '80 grad. A Skyway-District 20 volunteer firefighter starting in 1979, the brotherhood of lifelong friends became family to him. Active in sports, he was always involved in baseball, golfing (1978/Fairwood-3rd Hole/Hole in One!), bowling and rooting on his daughters in volleyball. Most recently, he has played for many years on the Flow Bowling League at Cascade Bowl and the Flow Golfing League at Jade Greens. Brian's family and friends will forever honor his smile, remember his infectious laugh, talk about the twinkle in his eye. Everywhere he went, a friend was made and spirits were lifted. He was truly an Angel on earth and he touched every life encountered on his journey. Back to Heaven he has returned and he will continue to watch over all of us. Brian's family would like to thank all the nurses at St. Joe's that cared for him with such kindness. A Celebration of his Life will be held in July. Please contact [email protected] for further details. In lieu of flowers, a benevolent fund has been established at BECU for medical expenses and funeral arrangements in the name of Brian Peterson (Lori-Ann McKay). Friends of Brian Peterson, RHS class of '80 have established a fund at U.S. Bank for his daughters, Kelsie and Kaitlin.

I met Brian when he came to work at JC Wright and then a short time later figured out that I had known his parents for years through the VFW. I left JC Wright soon after that but remember Brian fondly. Words can not convey my sadness at the loss the family is feeling at this time. My deepest sympathies to you all.

It saddens my heart to know that Brian has passed. I have fond memories of Brian from years ago. My heart and well wishes go out to his family and all the lives he's touched. God bless (Michelle Shinners)

Brian and I worked together at JC Wright for the eight years that I've been here. This quote from Shawshank Redemption doesn't exactly apply because it was in reference to Andy being locked in jail, but I can't really find the words myself...

"I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend."

I am glad my friend has found a better place, but I am truely saddened that he's gone.

I knew Brian well, back in the old days at RHS. We were on some baseball teams together and were generally good friends from middle school on. Although I have not seen Brian since graduation, I have fond memories of our friendship. This news is most unwelcome, and fills me with sadness. Knowing Brians character, I am sure that he led a fulfilling life.
