Charles Eck Obituary

Charles Peter Eck

September 15, 1944 - September 8, 2017

Charles 'Peter' Eck, age 72, (Mechanicsburg, PA) died peacefully on September 8, 2017, after battling COPD and pulmonary fibrosis. Peter was born on September 15, 1944, in Pensacola, Florida, and is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Paula Baynar Eck; his daughters, Christine Eck (Matthew Burke), Lynnwood, WA, and Jacqueline (Eck) Fry (Chris Fry), Olympia, WA; step-mother, Elizabeth C. Manahan; siblings, William, Jr., Jeanne, Sara, John; and grandchildren, Madeleine, Ian, Zola. He is predeceased by his parents and twin brother.

Military employment includes 27 years of service with U.S. Army, PA National Guard and WA National Guard and Reserves until retirement as Lieutenant Colonel in 2004. Civilian employment includes PA Department of Revenue, PA and WA State Lotteries and Nintendo of America. While Peter enjoyed many professional successes and military awards, he remained a humble man.

Peter was also known for his kindness and generosity to both loved ones and strangers and was a true believer in random acts of kindness. He was an avid reader, curious and interested in any topic, but most passionate about history, current events and politics. Peter loved to cook and was known as "Chef Pierre" for his delicious culinary creations. He had many friends and colleagues worldwide, but he most enjoyed being with his beloved Paula and devoted dog, Toby.

Today is the one year anniversary of Peter's death and yet it feels like it was yesterday. His presence lives on as does his love for his devoted wife, Paula; his daughters, Chris and Jackie; grandchildren, Maddie, Ian and Zola; and his extended family of which I am honored to be one. My daughter, Jessica, was his niece, daughter and they shared a very close relationship and speical bond.. She loves him with all her heart. I miss all things Peter -- intelligence, curiosity, love of life, sense of humor, ability to laugh at himself. I will love you and miss you every single day of my life Peter. You were taken too soon but I know that you are in heaven watching down on all of us and sending your boundless love. Rest in peace my dearest brother-in-law.

I have lost one of the best brothers-in-law a person could have. Peter was an extraordinary man who loved life, lived each day to the fullest and was devoted to his wife Paula. I will miss this kind, generous, funny, smart, inquisitive man the rest of my days. My heart goes out to my sister Paula. Theirs was a love story not many people get to experience. Rest in Peace Peter.

To the Eck Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
