David Chaplin Obituary
M.D., F.R.C.S.
David Morley Chaplin, 76, died on Sunday, January 24, 2016. He left this life the way he lived it, determined, never complaining, never giving up; always looking forward with strength and composure.
He is survived by his wife Dawn, his sister Anne, his five children: Andrew, Michael, Deborah, Keith and Christopher. He has 8 grandchildren.
At 17, David attended the University of Birmingham Medical School followed by admission to the Royal College of Surgeons of England - completing his training in general surgery and Orthopedic Surgery.
With his family he moved to the U.S. in 1974 to work at Harborview in Seattle and Chair the Orthopedic residency program at the University of Washington. He went into private practice with Orthopedic Physicians at Swedish Hospital in 1978, retiring in 2005.
David was a loving family man, lifelong learner and avid runner. He was happiest in his garden and wood shop.

I only discover this today 08/11/20 David and I were next door neighbours in Quinton Birmingham. We went to the same school Oldbury Grammar School Lost touch as our careers went their separate ways.He looked slimmer than when we were schoolboys!!

While browsing the net Dr. Chaplin's name came to mind. I was saddened to read of his passing.Dr. had performed back surgery on me in 1980.
He truly was a gifted man that gave me my life back and for that I'm grateful.
My sympathies to your family, rest well Dr. knowing that I've never forgotten what you did for me.

Dr. Chaplin was beloved at Swedish Medical Center by everyone lucky enough to have worked with him. So funny and kind - and because he was so nice he always got stuck with new learners on staff. He didn't mind at all and made sure they had a good experience. He loved to teach, too, but it was his humor that we remember and appreciate most. Gone too soon for sure....
