Marcia Brunner Obituary

Marcia Lee BRUNNER (Nielsen) Born in Seattle on May 21st, 1947, Marcia was a true Seattle native, who graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1965 and was a member of the reunion committee. She was a member of the University Assembly No. 13 of Rainbow for Girls, and was active in CampFire Girls both as a child and an adult. She is survived by her devoted husband and caregiver, Dan Brunner, 4 children, (Dan, Kerri, Jamie Allison and virtually adopted, Kristine), 6 grandchildren, (with 2 more on the way), and her parents, Ken and Georgiana Nielsen. Her only sibling, Nancy, passed away in 1989. Marcia had an infectious smile and a "can do" spirit and was an amazing woman, wife, and mother who will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Marcia was best known for helping others throughout the community, even at great cost to herself. She was an award winning volunteer in North Seattle, serving as an integral part of the Phinney Neighborhood Association, Greenwood Seafair Parade, Greenwood Car Show, Greenwood Senior Center, Greenwood/Phinney CoC, and Adams Elementary tutoring program (to name a few). In addition, she was a small business owner/operator on Phinney Ridge for over 20 years. Marcia fought leukemia for 11 years, and thought she had beaten it twice. She had just celebrated her 60th birthday and 27th wedding anniversary, before losing her third battle with the disease. Marcia fought this disease valiantly, and with everything she had, before succumbing to it on June 16th at the UW Medical Center. Marcia's Memorial Service and a "Celebration of Her Life" will be held on July 14th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Church, 111 NE 80th St, Seattle. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Hope For Marcia Trust Fund (www.HopeForMarcia.org) or get registered on the international bone marrow donor registry. Details at www.psbc.org or www.marrow.org. She will be buried in a private family ceremony, next to her sister Nancy, in a beautiful memorial garden.

Marcia is my Mom. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have had such a great Mom who led by example of how to be a caring, generous person. She taught me to be a contribution to this world before you leave it. I will never be able to express how much I am going to miss her. Myself and my siblings will never stop trying to carry on her legacy of being a loving Mother, true friend and a valuable community asset. Remember she is up in heaven now, watching us all and being so proud to have had us in her life. And no doubt, learning to use her wings!
