Allan Perry Obituary

Allan S.Perry, Jr.

July 11, 1919-Oct 13, 2017

Allan S. Perry, Jr. passed away on October 13, 2017 at the age of 98 in Redwood City, California. He lived a long and full life.

He was born on July 11, 1919 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Allan, Sr. and Mary Matthews Perry. The family moved to San Francisco, California in 1928.

He attended Grant School and Lowell High School in San Francisco. He went on to attend Stanford University, interrupted with military service in the Army during World War Two where he was stationed in Japan. He returned to Stanford to complete his studies and graduate in 1947.

He married Hallie Brunn Perry, also from San Francisco, on February 23, 1948. They raised a family of three sons on the Peninsula in Menlo Park, Redwood City and Palo Alto.

Allan pursued a career in the printing business working at a variety of companies including his own, Reliable Lithograph Company in San Francisco. He also worked for Sorg Printing and National Press associated with Mayfield Publishing in Palo Alto.

He was active in the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and advocate for the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House. He enjoyed his over 15 years of service volunteering at Children's Hospital at Stanford and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. It was there his loving nature and famous sense of humor found its greatest benefit in lifting the spirits of the children and families and the staff.

His family shared his interest in books, music and nature that led to many camping trips in the Sierras, as well as show tunes and symphonies played on the stereo after dinner. He and his wife Hallie traveled often and went on regular weekly excursions to explore whatever struck their fancy, often related to what they were reading at the time.

Allan is survived by his sons William and wife Edna, Robert, and David, his grandchildren Vanessa and her wife Carol, Michael and his wife Angela, and Nicholas and Joseph, and his great grandchildren Owen, Noah, Austyn and Asher; his nephew Ted Holt, his nieces Elsie Franken-Holt and Anne Temple. His wife Hallie and sister-in-law Rose Marie Holt predeceased him.

Services will be held at Menlo Church on Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park, California at 2 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2017. The family ask that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
