Anne Hahn Obituary

Anne Frances Hahn
December 31, 1937 - December 24, 2023
Anne Frances Hahn (née Tuchler), 85, of Burlingame, Calif., passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023. She was born on December 31, 1937, in San Francisco, Calif., to the late Frank and Marian Tuchler.
Anne is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Gerald Hahn; her loving daughter, Tricia Mason and son-in-law, Bill Mason. She was known as the Dearest Sweetest Grammie in the Whole Wide World to grandchildren, Micaela, Brittany, Caitlin, and Zachary Mason. She will be deeply missed by her sister, Pat Stecher (Mike); nieces and nephews, Carole Nickolai (Roy), Stacy Bennett (Michael), Christopher Stecher (Amy), Matthew Stecher (Shawna) and Jennifer Sullivan (Brian); and her many great-nieces and great-nephews. Anne was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Hahn.
Anne attended Notre Dame des Victoires for grammar school and St. Rose Academy for high school. At St. Rose she enjoyed playing basketball and making lifelong friends. She completed her formal education at Lone Mountain (San Francisco College for Women), earning a B.A. and a teaching credential. After college, she was active in the Catholic Alumni Club, where she met the love of her life. They spent the '60s traveling to Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, Disneyland, and throughout the West Coast.
Anne dedicated 45 years of her life to teaching at Redding Elementary School (San Francisco), Our Lady of Angels Catholic School (Burlingame), and St. Dunstan Catholic School (Millbrae). She was deeply committed to nurturing young minds through her ability to inspire and motivate until she retired at 81 years old. Anne was a dedicated educator who left a lasting impact on her students' and fellow educators' lives.
Anne was an active member of Our Lady of Angels Parish, where she found solace and community. She was very passionate about volunteering and fundraising for OLA and the Capuchin Franciscans. Anne held many leadership positions throughout OLA, including OLA Women's Club President and Eucharistic Minister Leader. She chaired the OLA Dinner Dance, St. Dunstan Dinner Dance, OLA Fashion Shows, Capuchin Franciscan Golf Tournaments, Burlingame High School Taste of the Town, various Catholic Charities and Little Children's Aid events, OLA's 75th Jubilee and her favorite event, Fr. Flavian's 50th Jubilee. Anne lived a life of kindness and generosity, volunteering for her parish and bringing joy to those around her.
Beyond her career and volunteer work, Anne had a variety of interests and hobbies. Growing up, she loved tennis and skiing. Anne was an avid Bay Area sports fan, but the San Francisco Giants held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed following her grandchildren's college teams. Anne never missed an episode of Jeopardy. She cherished her trips to Tahoe, Palm Desert, and Hawaii, where she created lasting memories with family and friends. She treasured her time with family sitting on the beach and doing her crossword puzzle. Anne also had a passion for cooking and delighted in sharing her culinary creations. She found joy in entertaining friends and family, and always made others feel welcome and part of the family.
Anne will be remembered for her warm and caring nature, her love for her family, and her dedication to her community. A Vigil Service will be held on January 4, 2024, at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place on January 5, 2024, at 10 a.m. Both services will be at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame. Anne will be laid to rest at St. John's Cemetery in San Mateo. Following the services, a celebration of Anne's life will be held at Poplar Creek in San Mateo and all family and friends are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Capuchin Franciscans, 1345 Cortez Avenue, Burlingame, Calif. 94010 in Anne's memory.
Anne will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts as a testament to a life well-lived. May she rest in eternal peace.

Anne Hahn was a tireless Catholic educator on behalf of students, families, and colleagues. Every few years a new "idea" in education would be highly promoted in administrative circles. Anne used to say, "Well, I am already doing that". Most often she was. Her lesson plans were flawless and creative as were her liturgical planning for Masses and prayers services. Before the fall semester of school Anne would be meticulously planning for the school year along with her hard working and happy volunteers, her grandchildren. Memorable Anne Hahn moments: spring release of the Monarch Butterflies, Thanksgiving Soup and Prayer Service, Knott´s Berry Farm and SF Giants fieldtrips, faculty social gatherings at her beloved Fiddlers and Anne´s active support of school fundraisers. All of this effort and more was Anne´s solid support for the St. Dunstan School and Parish community. As has been stated, her volunteer work as a parishioner at Our Lady of Angels is legendary. A native San Franciscan and educated in local Catholic schools, Anne was a devoted teacher in both public and Catholic schools. Thank you, Anne. Your legacy includes generations of students and families who benefited from your dedicated service. Sending my condolences and prayers to your family, your extended family and your many friends as we both mourn and celebrate your extraordinary life.

I worked wit Anne at St.Dunstan and will always remember her gracious manner, her wicked sense of humor and kindness towards every child in her class. She was kind to me when I needed someone to be kind and I will never forget her. May the Angels lead you into paradise Anne.
