Barbara Kobayashi Obituary

Barbara Kobayashi
09/01/1937 - 06/07/2024
Barbara Fumiko Kobayashi was born in Los Angeles. She was the third daughter of Sadao and Chiyeko Nishioka. When she was four years old, she was sent with her family to the Japanese Internment Camp in Poston, Arizona.
She attended U.C.L.A. where she graduated with a B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science. She enjoyed her career as a laboratory technologist and manager. She earned her Masters in Clinical Laboratory Science from S.F.S.U.
H.John Kobayashi and Barbara married in 1961 and had two children, Lisa and Doug. She encouraged them to excel in school and in competitive swimming and music.
Barbara loved nature and animals. She helped transform the lot on 12th and Pacheco into a native plant garden that attracts the green hairstreak butterfly. She adored her beloved adopted dog, Kiku. She will be greatly missed. Her spirit will remain in our hearts.
Barbara is survived by daughter Lisa (Laron), son Doug, grandson Nathan, granddaughter Marissa and brother Kenny.

Barbara was a lovely lady. We met in the 1980s when we both worked for the same laboratory. She was based in San Francisco, and I was in Southern California. Somdtime after I left the company, she invited me to her home in San Francisco. I had a great visit. We laughed at our attempt to tour Alcatrez. She said that she had never been (really?). We did not make it that day as the water was too choppy, so the tours were canceled. I went east for 20 years and recently returned to So Cal. I decided to look Barbara up and found this notice of her passing. My thoughts and prayers will be with her family on Sept. 1.

Barbara was such a sweet and knowledgeable woman. I was always in such awe of her passion for nature and helping others to also see the beauty around them.
