Barbara Manierre Obituary

Barbara Hall Manierre
06/12/1947 - 12/16/2024
Barbara Hall Manierre passed away in Walla Walla, Washington, on December 16, 2024, surrounded by her close family. Barbara was born in Dayton, Ohio, on June 12, 1947, to James Stafford Hall and Betty Craig Hall.
Barbara attended her parents' alma mater Denison University in Granville, Ohio, graduating with honors in 1969. After Denison, Barbara lived briefly in New York City and Chicago before settling in San Francisco. Barbara attended Hastings Law School (now UC Law SF) where she served as an editor of the law journal and supported herself with legally related part time jobs.
After graduating in 1977, Barbara practiced for 10 years at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro. In 1978, she and her husband Bill Manierre were married. After their daughters Lauren and Samantha were born, Barbara left the law to become a full-time mother. Bill, also a lawyer, worked first at Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon and later at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton.
Barbara and Bill raised their daughters in Berkeley. After guiding Lauren through the college selection process, Barbara began practicing as an independent college advisor. In 2017, Barbara and Bill retired to Walla Walla, where Sam and her husband Erik were planning to settle. Barbara and Bill had many travel adventures with both family and friends and regularly spent part of each summer in Michigan.
Perhaps Barbara's greatest strength was nurturing close friendships. Many friends from Dayton, Denison, Hastings, Berkeley, Michigan, Walla Walla and the Pillsbury, Bronson and Sheppard Mullin firms join with Barbara's family in mourning her loss.
Barbara is survived by her husband Bill; their daughters Lauren Paland and Sam Kofler and their families; and Barbara's first cousin Rob Craig and his family.
Barbara was bright, cheerful, competent, generous, direct, elegant and loving. Her family and friends will always remember her gift for making people feel special and loved and will never cease to cherish her memory. Her grandchildren will hold their Yaya in their hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huron Mountain Wildlife Foundation (hmwf.org) or the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle (fredhutch.org).

It is with great sadness I have only now learned of Barbara's death while attending the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Assn tour of Claremont houses yesterday. I enjoyed her emails from Walla Walla for many years after she and Bill moved. She was very consoling after my husband died. May your friends Bill offer the same warm support of you. H
