Carol Ainsworth

Carol Ann Ainsworth Mar. 13, 1941 - Dec. 30, 2010 Of Saint Helena died on December 30, 2010 of complications from a stem cell transplant for leukemia. Born in Bristol, CT in 1941, Carol attended local grammar and high schools before graduating from the University of Connecticut. Her adventuresome spirit led her to Southern California after graduation, where she taught high school. She fell in love with the San Francisco Bay Area during visits here and, in 1972, moved to Los Altos Hills. Her working career included school book publishing, her own seminar business in business communications, and executive search. In 1983, she married David Ainsworth, a San Francisco maritime attorney. The couple lived in San Anselmo, then San Francisco's Telegraph Hill, and finally Saint Helena. In the Napa Valley, she established personal relationships with olive oil estate owners and conducted tours, tastings and events at the estates under the name of Great Olive Tours. Her tours were so successful that, by 2010, Great Olive Tours ranked No 1 on Trip Advisor under "Things to Do in Saint Helena." She is survived by her husband David, sisters Sr. Marian Ingellis M.P.F. of Morristown, NJ, and Sandra Morse-Druhan of Andover, MA, brothers John Ingellis of Columbus, IN, Patrick Ingellis of Old Saybrook, CT and William Ingellis of Southbury CT. Carol was predeceased by her sister Phyllis Robinson of Thomaston, CT. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:30 AM at The Presbyterian Church, 1428 Spring Street in Saint Helena, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
