Dagmar Dresden Van Dusen Hosobuchi passed away suddenly on April 8th, 2013 in Novato, California. Beloved daughter of Charles Van Dusen and Evelyn Dagmar Ott Van Dusen, stepdaughter of Bryant Heston, and loving wife of the late Yoshio Hosobuchi, who tragically died just last year, she will be sorely missed. Dresden was born in Maryland in 1954. She lost her father while she was very young, but her mother remarried a year later. Due to the military occupations of her fathers, she grew up in various places in the United States and Panama. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, she worked at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the University of California Medical School, San Francisco. Dresden and Yosh were married in San Francisco, CA in 1990 and lived in San Rafael, CA, Honolulu, HI, New York City, NY and Novato, CA. Together, they traveled the world, enjoying the sights and cultures of China, Nepal, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Africa and Europe. Wherever they went, they engaged in active sports, conquering Mt. Kilimanjaro less than 2 years ago. Dresden had a passion for gardening and a love of animals, particularly birds. Her open and honest personality created deep and lasting friendships with people from all walks of life. She is survived by her stepfather, Bryant Heston of Mesquite, NV, her aunt, Shirley Van Dusen of Valley Center, CA, her niece, Sarah Heston of Colombia, MO, and three stepchildren, Midori Hosobuchi, David Hosobuchi and Mei Lin Hosobuchi Wolff.

I am saddened to find out about Dresden's passing. My friendship with Yosh and Dresden began in Hawaii and continued after they left. We lost touch with each other several months ago and I felt a need to reconnect, but to no avail. It was through the internet that I read about her passing. My heart is heavy that we didn't reconnect sooner. Knowing that Dres and Yosh are together again (with Tabo, too) gives me some comfort.
My deepest sympathy to the family.
