David Bracker passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2025, at age 83, due to cancer. A native San Franciscan, he was deeply proud of his Mexican and Mission District roots.
David shared 38 joyful years with his wife, Kathy Kenny, a retired nonprofit leader and contemporary artist. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, travel, and friendship-dividing their time between Oakland and Bucerías, Mexico, where they spent 25 winters.
He loved his daughter, Megan, and grandsons, Sean and Evan Peterson, deeply, and is lovingly remembered by his son-in-law, Eric Peterson; his sisters, Brenda Markson and Susan Bracker; and his former wife, Megan's mother Judy Moore.
A Lowell High graduate, David earned a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley and a master's in social work from San Francisco State University. He dedicated his career to public service, leading San Francisco nonprofits including Arriba Juntos, the Mission Neighborhood Health Center, and the Hearing Society for the Bay Area. In his later years at UCSF's Chancellor's Office, he built lasting partnerships between the university and community health organizations-a role he often called "the perfect job."
David served on the board of the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice (CJCJ), championing fairness and second chances. He donated his body to UCSF for medical research.
He loved cars, good wine, tennis, travel, and the 49ers, and will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and compassion.
