Rest in paradise David Brown. To the Brown Family (and especially Jan Brown)my deepest condolence eventhough it's been 13 yrs since David's crossover. My name is Karlene (Nita) Hines. My family were friends with David's uncle; Harold Dove. I'd love to catch up with Jan if she remembers me. I can be reached via email at [email protected]. Drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you.

Met David via Louis Washington while he lived in Lakeview District, SF. It was before Santana, mid-60's, around the Santana Blue Band/Fillmore Auditorium on Market St days. He was sitting at a grand piano in a home's lower level family room...gosh he was talented. I was into Brubeck, Tjader, Bobo, Sergio Mendez - but it was David who asked: "have you heard Song For My Father by Horace Silver? It was then my love affair with jazz really began - because of him....later meeting Horace, momentarily, at the Off Broadway, SF. David was a kind and very gentle soul - I will always remember him during that "before fame" time...just a guy from the neighborhood and me - livin' life in THE CITY during that fabulous era.
