David Cruickshank Obituary

David L. Cruickshank Age 77, died on December 10, 2006 surrounded by his family in Carmel, CA. He was born to Esther and William Cruickshank, in Los Angeles on September 19, 1929, grew up in Ventura, CA, and graduated with a bachelor of science in agricultural economics from the University of California at Berkeley. While at Cal he participated in intercollegiate rugby, was a member of the Big C Society, the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the Skull and Keys Society. He served his country in Korea from 1953-55 as a 1st lieutenant in the Army, then returned home to pursue his lifelong ambition in agriculture. He owned and managed citrus properties throughout the San Joaquin Valley for 57 years. He remained active with the University of California as the scholarship chairman for both Kern and Tulare counties, was named by the Kern County Jaycees as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America, served as a board member of the Sunkist Cooperative, and was the chairman of the board of the Exeter and Ivanhoe Citrus Associations. The majority of his hobbies and recreational activities were spent outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf. He was a member of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club and the Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club. He considered his most important gift to be his family. He was a loving husband, caring uncle and generous father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Ann; sons, Craig, Keith and Kevin; daughter, Cheryl; and daughter-in-law, Linn. As a grandfather he provided tender guidance to Ian, Annie, Whitney and Erin. A Memorial Service will be held for family members and friends on December 23, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Forest in Pebble Beach, CA. Flowers and donations should be made to the charity of your choice.
