David Mojas Obituary

David "Dave" Mojas
October 25, 1929 - August 16, 2023
Dave passed away peacefully at his home in Millbrae on August 16, 2023 with his family by his side. In his 93 years of life, Dave was known to be a devoted family-man, proud veteran, successful contractor and businessman as well as, a mentor and loyal friend.
Dave was born in San Francisco on October 25, 1929 and grew up in the Excelsior District. He was a proud alumni of Balboa High School and later earned a degree in structural engineering at Cogswell College. Dave served in the United States Navy, where he joined the swim team while stationed in Hawaii, despite being "ready, willing, and able" to see action. While in the service, Dave met his wife, Gerrie Hickey, whom he fell in love with and married in 1953. After their time on the islands, Dave returned to the Bay Area with his family and established himself as a contractor and developer with Dave Mojas Construction. Dave was also active in the community as a member of the San Bruno Lions Club, where he made lifelong friends and was instrumental in building the 4H Club in San Bruno.
In light of his many successes, Dave's greatest accomplishment was his family. Dave and Gerrie raised a beautiful family and traveled the world side-by-side until Gerrie passed away in 2010. Dave is survived by his four children and their families; his son, Bob (Lee) Mojas; and three daughters, Bonnie (Lee) Rosser, Jill (Darren) Cde Baca and Julie (Packy) Moss. His life lessons will be passed on by his nine grandchildren, Bob Jr., Jodie, Chris, Levi, Linsay, Mitchell, Brett, Amber, Austin; and 12 great-grandchildren, Makena, Jace, Julia, Jovie, Hana, Trey, Cy, Gavin, Weston, Lindon, Ryan and Lane. Dave is also survived by his youngest brother, Pete (Mary) Mojas; and his many nieces and nephews who he cared for deeply. He will continue to be missed by his girlfriend, Sharon Martinez, who he found later in life. Over the last decade, Dave and Sharon traveled lots and enjoyed time with their friends and families living life to its fullest!
Although he had traveled all over the world, Dave's favorite places were Maui and Blue Lake. Dave's love for water was a constant in his life and he excelled as a swimmer, surfer, diver, fisherman and lifeguard (at Fleishhacker Pool). Even as his health declined, Dave was able to make trips to Blue Lake to swim and spend time on his own personal beach or drive over to Pacifica to watch the surfers and enjoy the ocean air.
Dave was loved by many and had a robust support system. He was aided by his niece, Barbara, who was an essential part of his daily life over the past 18 years. His caretakers, Jennifer, Allen, Lori, Lubin, Kristine, and Hazel, were a true blessing to Dave and offered him the highest level of dignity and quality of life to the end.
A private family burial was held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Family and friends later gathered for the Celebration of Life held at Green Hills Country Club. The event was standing room only, a testament to Dave's extraordinary life and the people he touched along the way!

May Dave´s friends and family find comfort in their memories. I recall Dave working side-by-side with my mom, Jeanne French, and other 4-H leaders to plan and build a new clubhouse and farm in Dan Bruno, which remains in active use today. I remember his big smile and "can-do" attitude. He made a big difference in our lives and will long be temembered.
