Don was an important mentor for me in my journey in the field of education and service learning. He visited our programs at CSU Chico several times and I worked with him on a number of service learning initiatives in California including the Service Learning 2000 program he headed at Stanford. I am sorry I lost track of him in the later years after my retirement. I will always remember Don as an innovator, deep thinker, and caring individual who helped bring innovation and reform to education.
On a side note, I didn't know his middle name was MacKay. I have MacKay lineage and just recently visited MacKay country in northern Scotland.
Blessings to his family.

After reading that Donald has passed,we are sending our deepest sympathies to Ann, Donald, Tod and Martha.
We spend wonderful hours with Don and Ann at home in Stanford and in a winery (1993). His last visit in Berlin, Heinrich Schwermer died, was also unforgetable.
I have not the adress from Cloverdale and send this words on this way. Perhaps this notice find the way to the familie Hill.

Don Hill was very protective of me. Always found a way to keep me in the mix of AP courses with him-it was a great time for all of us. He was such a kind & generous man!!

I was a junior at Aragon HS in 1961-1962 when Mr Dunstan and Mr Hill began an innovative, challenging way to teach American History. Grateful.

Dear Ann, Chip, Todd, and Martha --
I was so shocked and saddened when Jim Garrison gave a prayer of gratitude in church last week for the life and work of your dear husband and dad.
I had wondered why we had not seen you recently at funerals at College Heights, but now I understand you had retired to Cloverdale.
I have many fond memories of Don. You were among the "aunts" and "uncles" I grew up with -- Brocks, Bishops, Matthews, Wilkinsons. Stones, etc. Don and a couple of others generously helped my mom load my storage locker when Carol moved back to Connecticut and I was still at Davis. You guys came to my wedding and helped reset the interior of the church for dinner under the direction of Marge Stogner.
Don was my teacher at Aragon 2 or 3 times, for freshman social science, psychology, and maybe U.S. government. He was always engaging and dynamic, an empathetic teacher who tried to include everyone, even those who were not "into" school. I also remember that as teenagers we walked precincts to pamphlet for his campaign for school board.
I loved Don like an uncle, and will miss him greatly.
I hold you all in my heart as you mourn your husband, dad, grandpa. Much love and a big hug, Karen Conklin
