Edward Parrott Obituary

Edward Joseph Parrott
SFFD

Former Caspar resident Ed Parrott passed away after fighting Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. He died peacefully in his new home outside of Santa Maria, CA surrounded by family and friends. In school he boxed, wrestled, and worked at a camera shop. He also joined the local car club and loved to drag race at Ocean Beach. After graduating from Balboa High School, he joined the Merchant Marines at age 17 and sailed throughout southeast Asia. He told wonderful stories about his shipmates and their exploits together. When he returned from Viet Nam, he entered the San Francisco Fire Department, a job he loved and stayed with for 27 years. While in the fire department, he taught scuba diving with his brother. He retired as the Fire Inspector for his beloved Chinatown, North Beach, and Fisherman's Wharf districts. Ed moved to Caspar with his wife Denise in 1990, then opened the second hand vintage store, Good Stuff! He loved to travel the states with his wife collecting items for the store. He also co-founded Understuff!, a women's undergarment and clothing store, which remains in business on Franklin St. today. He loved to tell his fireman buddies that he was "into women's underwear!" Ed loved a good joke, always shared them with anyone who would listen, and we called him the King of Puns. While living in Caspar, Ed delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered his time to entertain the elderly as well as made a significant donation to the Senior Center Day Program. Ed was born October 17, 1940 in Chinatown, San Francisco and while not afraid to die, he was sad to be leaving his friends and family behind. He suffered but never complained...a man's man to the very end. He is survived by his wife Denise Parrott, son Matthew Parrott, brother Mark Unger, sister Marcia Parrott, brother Steve Parrott, dearest friends Betty, Gerry, and Mary Rack, Charlie Lorenz, Char and Leslie Flum, and his ever faithful pound hound Strut. Donations can be made to the Mendocino Coast Humane Society, Friends of Hospice, or the Senior Center Day Program.
