Elizabeth Welsh Obituary

Elizabeth "Betsy" Welsh 89, died June 1, 2010 in Santa Rosa. Born Elizabeth Ann Dobrzensky in Oakland, CA, February 18, 1921, to Milton Dobrzensky and Dorothy Hills Perry, sister of Stacy Dobrzensky, and stepdaughter of Winnie Dobrzensky. Betsy lived in Oakland, Orinda, Carmel, Piedmont, Fremont, Alamo, Los Gatos, and Santa Rosa, California and Kailua, Hawaii. Betsy graduated from Oakland H.S. and the Univ. of California, Berkeley, B.A. Poli Sci ('42). She was in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Mortar Board and Prytanean Women's Honor Societies, and Vice President of her senior class. Betsy married Milton Vail in 1942. They had two children, Nancy and Tom. Milt passed away in 1953. In 1956, Betsy married George McClintock. They had twin daughters, Martha and Mary. Betsy and George started McClintock Metal Fabricators in 1966. After George passed away in 1974, Betsy ran the business until 1981. She remained Chair of the Board until 1996. She was a member of the Junior League and the Los Gatos Methodist Church. In 1975, Betsy married Jay Welsh, who passed away in 1986. Betsy had many friends in Oakmont and she was active with Cal alumni and Oakmont Rotary Club. Betsy is survived by her children Nancy (Fla.), Tom (Ore.), Martha (Melbourne, Aus.), and Mary (Mass.), and stepchildren Lucy Welsh, Greg Welsh and Kathy Tobin. Betsy was grandmother to 5 and great-grandmother to 8. Betsy passed away peacefully in the company of her devoted caregiver Mele Natuna. Missed by loving family and friends. By her request, Betsy's ashes will be scattered under the Golden Gate Bridge. A celebration of Betsy's life will be held in Santa Rosa at Brighton Gardens at 2pm on June 25th. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested a memorial contribution be made to Goodwill or Rotary Foundation.
