Elsie McGee Obituary

Elsie May McGee
08/01/1935 - 12/15/2024
Elsie May McGee, age 89, passed away unexpectedly, on December 15, 2024, while at home, doing what she loved, preparing for the upcoming holiday.
Born on August 1, 1935, in Bonnyville, Alberta, Canada. She was one of 5 girls born to the late Louis and Marie Anne Reynolds. She met her late husband, Seamus McGee, as well as many lifelong friends at the McGee's house in Edmonton, Alberta in 1953. They were married in 1957, and started their family with the birth of Brenda and later Wendy. Seamus' work would take them to many far-flung places such as Uranium City, Saskatchewan, where Elsie was one of very few women in the area.
In 1960, they immigrated to San Francisco and the family expanded with the births of Brian, Tracy, Linda and Janet. They eventually settled in St. Monica's Parish in the Richmond District, where she would become one of the neighborhood moms that everyone knew. Family meant everything to Elsie, and she was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren. Her great-granddaughters were one of her greatest joys. Known for her sense of adventure and love of travel, she was ready to go anywhere with anyone at any time. Elsie adored her sisters and many friends, and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sister, Marie Anne McFaull of Edmonton; her sister-in-law, Patricia Reiter of San Diego; and her honorary sister, Wendy Icheln. Devoted mother to Brenda (Tod) Thatcher, Wendy (Mario) McGee-Preti, Brian (Monica), Tracy, Linda and Janet. Loving grandmother to Marie (Christopher), Jamie, Tony, Patrick, Nicole, Victoria (J.J.), Robert, Grace and Seamus. Cherished great-grandmother to Neomi and Amia. Beloved by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceded in death by her husband, Seamus McGee; and beloved sisters and brothers-in-law, Maria Doherty, of Alberta, Anna and Elbert Cooper of Saskatchewan, Irene and Jim Shamchuk of Alberta and Stan McFaull of Alberta.
Friends are invited to visit after 6 pm, on Friday, January 3, with the Rosary starting at 7 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 4, at 10:30 am. All services will be held at St. Monica's Church, 470 24th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94121. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lorenzo's House (for Younger Onset Dementia).

To Elsie McGee's family. May i first apologize for not sending this earlier, for it is hard for me to find words. You know me a person who is always gabbing until i was writing this, i was stunned for words. Knowing you and the family of McGee's you are suffering as well as me. Like all my other sisters each and every one so much. I think of them every day and pray for them. Elsie played the roll of our mother until I was around 12 and took on responsibilitys and duties to help our Dad. Moving on i will miss Elsie so very much. I will always keep all my sisters and father and mother in my heart. All the McGee's are my family now. Love and big hugs to each and all the family of Elsie. My sisters were all fantastic people, with all fine qualities. I miss her, her calls, the way she spoke and understood me. She would listen to me until i understood. I remember we went to England,Scotland,Wales,Cornwall,London. Then we went to Dublin Ireland to see the book of Quails, we learnt so much. Then we went to northern Ireland to see Seamus relatives. We went to the bleek factory as well. Elsie and i agreed Wales was a beautiful country to visit. Yes Elsie did love to travel, she tooj me many places in San Francisco. She enjoyed Lake Tahoe as well. So with this all with my sister the way she loved people and traveling, she was a daring person! She was a lady of many things and i miss her. The reason ivam sending all this because i am so sorry yet again i lost another person i love dearly.

One of my favorite memories of Elsie was on one of our trips to Solvang. We always had a charcuterie of many fun goodies to snack on while we're giggling about. Well, I put the blocks of fudge that I just bought next to the aray of snacks and cheeses and overheard Mrs. Elsie say "Well, that's the sweetest cheese I've eaten!" She had spread the vanilla fudge on an herb cracker..... hahahaha. Oh man! That had me in stitches. She will definitely be missed.

Our condolences on the passing of Elsie from the English side of the family. My only regret is that we didn't get to see her as often as we would have liked being so far away.
May she walk with angels and reunite with her passed loved ones.
Forever in our hearts
