How unusual is it to enjoy your visits to your periodontist? A good laugh with Andrea , a cheerful greeting with excellent care from Dr Gara ( 223132..4 ..212) and the lulling accent from the Russian hygienist --/ this happy memory accompanies us as we totter along down life´s cul de sac

Andrea, I just saw this. How sad that such a sweet and good and professional man is gone. And you, I hope you have most of your sisters to get you laughing from time to time. You two gave wonderful care to us , a pleasure to go to an appointment! How do you manage after so many years together, at home and at the office. Jean will be 94 in June, he is aging... uses a walker, sometimes a wheelchair... I have family in Eugene....

Having been a patient of his for 20+ years, I always looked forward to seeing you and Dr. Gara and catching up with all the news of your family. He was a kind man, and I could not have asked for a better dentist. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

I too loved you both and admire you too. His death seems to have been one we would all wish, but also a shock. My friend Bob Holmes learned of it from Darlene at his recent cleaning and I know he'd wish to send respect, condolences and friendship. As do I.

George and I went to Roosevelt JR High and onto Lowell. We use to skateboard ride through the neighborhood. He was my pal. When we grew up I became one of his patients and had to call him Dr. Gara. Since moving out of SF I no longer saw George professionally. But he has always been in my thoughts and I hold our old friendship in my heart. To the Gara Family I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. He was a Great Guy.
Love to all

Dear Andrea and family,
I am so sorry to hear about George's passing. I was looking forward to seeing you both at the 50th class reunion this September, but then was told you had retired and moved to Portland.
It was always fun to stop by 450 Sutter to visit when I was in SF (which doesn't happen much any more). I will always remembere George as a great person with a great sense of humor. I still tell people about what he told me when I asked him how important flossing was. He told me I only had to floss the teeth I wanted to keep. That was so typical of him!
A big hug to you and all the family.

George's obituary, how characteristic of the man: understated, self deprecatory, funny, focused on the important things. We miss him and you, Andrea. Condolences to you and family.

Andrea, I'm in disbelief at the moment. I am so sorry and can only imagine the pain you must be going through. You and "Dr. Gara" were much more than an appointment to me every six months. You were both old friends (going back to 1985 when I was young and handsome but had bad gums)! I really adored your husband, and I loved making him laugh every time I saw him. (He was pretty funny, too.) I can hear his laugh now. I'm devastated...I just lost my mom a few months ago. The pain I feel now is not unlike the pain I experienced when she died - that's how much I cared about Dr. Gara. I will continue to think of both of you fondly.
With much love and sadness,
David Schachman

I went to Lowell with George. We swam on the team. I remember George as a friendly person always with a smile and a dry sense of humor. He treated my sister when she was very ill with kindness and compassion. I am so very sorry for your loss - John Richardson

Dear Andrea and family,
I just happened to see the Life Tribute to George G. Gara in today's S.F. Chronicle. I was stunned and thought,"This can't be the young and expert periodontist who, for several years, worked on and cured my periodontal problems! Dr. Gara's practice also prospered under the direction of his wife Andrea's friendly and efficient Office Managerial skills. I always looked forward to seeing you along with Dr. Gara when I had an appointment. Your warm-hearted nature made it a pleasure to enter a dentist's office!
Just a few months ago,it seems, I learned during an appointment at my dentist's (Melissa Tuft), that you and Dr. Gara were closing the practice, retiring and moving to Portland, OR. I was so touched by this news I stopped by your office that afternoon to bid you and your husband "Bon Voyage" and tell you both how important Dr.Gara's efforts had been to my dental health. Furthermore, his advice that my periodontal problems could be solved if I stopped smoking was the catalyst that helped me to achieve that milestone in my life in 1987.
I send you and your family my deepest condolences and prayers for your coping with such an unexpected tragedy. He was far too wonderful a person to depart this earth, and he leaves many people besides his family who mourn his passing.
Loving thoughts to all,
Gretchen Hardman-Riedell
