To the Iida family, I am sending this note on behalf of all the staff members of International House Berkeley who had the honor of working with Hiroko Iida.
Hiroko had a beautiful smile, and was extremely patient. I know because when I came to I House, I had to ask a lot of ... basic (ignorant) questions about finance and budgets: Hiroko explained everything carefully, never ever hinting that perhaps I should already know these things.
Before we heard the word "computer," Hiroko, with Mrs. Yano, kept the dollars and cents of residents' fees, the kitchen, maintenance, salaries, programs, reserve funds of International House in the "correct columns."
Hiroko had a beautiful smile, yes. She also had a beautiful way with people, a beautiful attitude towards others that made her a real pleasure to work with.
When Hiroko left for a well-deserved retirement, I House felt a real loss. Now, you, her family members, are experiencing a deeper loss. Please know that we sympathize with you and send our deep condolences.
