Dr. Hosea Melrose Thomas, 61, of Daly City, CA and formerly of Monticello, FL transitioned this earthly life on Aug 19, 2012 while backpacking in Trinity County, CA. He received his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College and later a Doctor of Medicine from Howard University. He originally moved to San Francisco in 1976 with the US Public Health Service. In 1981, Dr. Thomas began working at Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco and by the end of his 30-year tenure, he had served as the hospital's Chief of Staff and Medical Director. Hosea was an avid gardener, and enjoyed playing guitar and dancing during his retirement.
Treasuring his life's legacy of service and love are: his loving wife, Dr. Brenda Peoples Thomas D.D.S.; daughters, Marinda (Jeffrey) Thomas McBride and Courtney Thomas; son, Jonathan Thomas; brother, Henry Mitchell Jr.; and countless family and friends.
Memorial service will be held Sat Sept 15 at 12pm, Sigmund Stern Grove.

I was a co-worker of Hosea's at Laguna Honda for 10 years and had the highest respect for him, both personally and professionally. He will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Hosea looked in on me when l was a patient at Laguna Honda. I will forever be thank-full to him and his family for their support during a most difficult period in my life. His gentle spirit and calm nature will be missed by everyone who knew him.

My condolences to Hosea's family. I had the privilege of working with Hosea at the Primary Care Department of the US Public Health Service Hospital and was gratified to watch him advance his career. I am grateful for his service to the community.

As a Clinical Psychologist I worked with Hosea at Laguna Honda from 2001 until his retirement. A remarkably capable, calm, thoughtful, gracious, warm-hearted, friendly and humanistic man, he was as concerned about his patients' social and emotional as their physical health. I especially appreciated working with him on the Bioethics Committee, of which he was the founding chairperson and inspiration. I had hoped to get to know him better now that I am retired, and miss him greatly. My profound sympathies to his family and friends, and my thanks for his presence among us.
