James Foley Obituary

James Foley

James F. Foley passed away in Pleasanton CA, October 29th, 2018. A light house beacon to his family and friends.
Most important to Jim was his family. He was an adoring husband of Kathleen M. Foley for 59 years. They traveled the world together. He was a loving father of Karen A. Ryan, James A. Foley, Tim Foley and father in law of Ember Foley and Mike Ryan. Proudest of Grandfathers of Ross Wolley, Monica (Austin) Nelson, Natalee Wolley, Rachel Foley and James Foley supporting and cheering them all on in any endeavor or accomplishment.
A third generation San Franciscan, son of James J. Foley and Frances Simpson Foley and brother of Mary Ann Hugo and the late Barbara Edler. Brother in law of Jerry Lynn Sullivan, Arthur J.(Marian) Sullivan III, Rosemary (Frank) Dervin, the late George Edler, the late Don Hugo, the late John J. Sullivan, the late James J. Sullivan. Jim was also close to his cousins Eileen Lynch (Tim) Anderson, Clair Mihan McCann, Robert Mihan and the late Mike Foley. Jim also had many nieces - Stephanie, Patty, Maureen, Erin and Gia, and, nephews – Brian, Scott, Michael, Dan, Matthew and Neil who loved his stories and shenanigans.
Jim was born in SF where he attended St Paul's grammar school and then moved to Burlingame CA and attended Our Lady of Angels grammar school and met his lifelong friend Bill Meuser. He graduated from Serra High School in San Mateo in 1955 and University of San Francisco in 1960 where he met his other lifelong friend Jack Bohach.
Dedicated and hardworking he retired as a Vice President of Corporate Security for Bank of America after 42 years of service in the footsteps of his late father who also retired after 47 years with Bank of America.
A patriotic man who loved his country, Jim was a commissioned officer in the US Army in October 1960 and retired as a Colonel in the US Army Reserves,91st Division in 1984. Jim also enjoyed many friendships as a member of the Tri-Valley SIRs 34. We will all miss the smile, the clever wit, the way he brought people together and made everyone feel welcome.
Friends may visit after 6:00pm, Friday, November 2nd at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 3999 - Bernal Ave., PLEASANTON, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated, Saturday at 12:30pm at Our Lady of Angels Church , 1721 Hillside Drive, BURLINGAME. Committal Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma.
