John Smith Obituary

John (Bud) C. Smith, Jr.
October 26, 1939 - March 12, 2023
John (Bud) Smith, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a brief battle with aggressive Lymphoma.
Born in San Francisco to John C. Smith, Sr. and Virginia (Collins). Bud was the eldest of five siblings.
Bud grew up in the city graduating from St. Cecilia's. When the family moved to Marin Co., he continued his education graduating from Sir Francis Drake High School in 1959. It was there that he first met the love of his life, Cynthia Quick.
Bud continued his studies at UC Berkeley, where he made life-long friendships with his Zeta Psi fraternity brothers. A week after they graduated in 1964, Bud and Cindy married. Together they raised their family in San Rafael, CA. Bud had his own successful personal injury law practice for many years in San Francisco. He loved traveling, Puerto Vallarta, London, cruises, but hated navigating airports. His passion for coaching youth sports was well known. Whether it was Little League, Pop Warner, CYO or San Rafael High School freshmen boys basketball, he gave it his all. Bud was an unwavering Cal fan and a proud member of the San Francisco Grid Club. A huge supporter of any team his children and grandchildren played for, he never missed a game if he could help it.
With a penchant for conversation, Bud made friends wherever he went. Good humored, bright, and insightful, he will be sorely missed by so many.
Bud is survived by his cherished wife of almost 59 years, Cindy, as well as their three daughters, Lisa Villarreal (Mike), Heather Radanovich (Mike), and Erica Smith, and grandchildren, Jessica, Gabriella, Alex, Jack, Mickey, Victor and Alexa. He also leaves behind his brothers Michael and Robert, and sister Jane Vernon. He is predeceased by his sister Ginny Zimmerman.
Services will be held March 29, 2023 at 11:00a.m. at St. Raphael's Church,
1104 5th Avenue, San Rafael.
