Beloved father, grandfather, and brother, Jonathan Carter West, passed away on June 14, 2024, at the age of 73.
Born to Lloyd and Shirley West in San Francisco on June 27, 1950, Jon grew up in Redwood City, where he spent fun times camping, playing with dinosaurs, making flip book movies, and collecting monster magazines. As a teen, he was a proud boy scout and soccer player and graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1968. He received his bachelor's degree in 1972 from the University of California Santa Barbara and went on to work in the seafood industry which he dedicated himself to for 48 years.
Jon was a skilled woodworker, at times, choosing to refinish a piece of furniture just for the fun of it. Always handy, he loved household projects, yardwork, and was often found with a crossword puzzle in hand. The intricate model ships he painstakingly built while watching his favorite news programs, home improvement shows, or Star Trek episodes, were that of a professional. He never turned down going to a Giants game or a Stones concert.
He is survived by his daughter, Erin Wat (Steve), grandchildren Owen, Ellie, and Mackenzie, sisters Penelope Holbrook and Patricia West (Bill), brother-in-law Thomas Petros (Linda) as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Benita West, of 48 years, who he was endlessly devoted to.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross. Donations can be made in his name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of his wife.
