JOSEPH QUARTINI Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Quartini 1981 - 2012 As a native son of Pacifica, Joe attended the Alternative School (now called Ocean Shore School), was a Terra Nova High School Class of 2000 graduate, and Eagle Scout. He was President of the Italian Club and as captain of the swim team; he also earned the MVP award in 2000. He went on to graduate from UC Santa Cruz in 2004 with a BS in Marine Geology, leading to his career at URS as a marine scientist. Joe was an avid swimmer, runner, and surfer. He's competed in triathlons on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. In 2009, he met his love, Elyse Tomasello, when they both attended a fundraiser for Team in Training. The two quickly were drawn to each other and while vacationing in Costa Rica, Joe proposed to Elyse and they celebrated their wedding last September in Santa Cruz. Joe is survived by his wife, Elyse; his parents, Fran and Ed Quartini of Pacifica; his mother in law, Judy Van Sant of Woodbury, New Jersey; father in law, the Honorable John (Deborah) Tomasello of Mantua, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Tracy (Gordie) Vap of North Carolina; and extended family members which include numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. Joe passed away while doing what he loved the most, surfing. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass, Saturday, June 2, 1pm at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 700 Oddstad Blvd., Pacifica, Ca 94044 Charitable donations in Joe's name may be made to: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Pacifica Beach Coalition.

Elyse & Family-
My boyfriend and I were able to share some great laughs with Joe & Elyse while traveling in Central America in May. We met them on the beach and were instantly drawn to Elyse's smile and Joe's laid back and cheery attitude. We spent a few evenings with them, which seemed like we knew them for months! Joe was so fun, caring, easy to talk to and all around a great person. We are SO blessed to have been able to have met Joe before he passed away. We will never forget the laughs we shared on the beach that night or the dropping bugs at dinner while you two were eating :) My thoughts and prayers are always with you. love LeAnne

Dearest Ed, Fran & Elyse,
How do you express what you are feeling when the words won't come and even if they did, they aren't the right ones. Joe's impact to all he met will forever be remembered. Because of his spirit of adventure and his love for nature our world was truly blessed for the time he shared with us. Our family has suffered a tremendous loss and I will forever ask why? And I will never understand. Ed, Fran & Elyse, I am so, so sad and so, so sorry and my heart is forever broken and I will forever miss Joe. My deepest, deepest sympathy to you now and always.

I have had the pleasure of sharing fun trips, meals and conversations with Joe through David Ron and it has always been a joy to be in his company and more recently in his and Elyse's company. To say this is a tragedy falls terribly short. My heart and all good thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.

Dear Ed, Fran & Elyse,

There are no words that could ever express our grief and sorrow. Your loss will forever be our loss as well. There are so many memories we will always cherish - our families celebrating life's milestones, the car shows (the year we lost Fran in Reno) the first Friday night the boys went out in the bronco and Fran and Debbie calling to say how "cute" they all looked, the Saturday the boys took the 55 out and Ray yelling at Joe to tell him if the car was lined up with the duct tape (the gararge had been swept and the tape unknowingly pulled up), the night Joe and Ray went to Stonestown to pick up uggs for Janine - they walked into the house laughing with just the boots - no bag, no box, no receipt - they had put the bag in the bed of the truck!
Joe will always be remembered lovingly and in our hearts forever.
Love,
John, Dee, Ray & Janine
