Joe passed away in his Mill Valley home from complications of a stroke. Born in San Francisco, CA to his late parents Salvatore and Angelina Scafidi (immigrants from Isola Salina, Sicily). He attended Windfield Scott Grammar School, Marina Junior High School, Galileo High School and City College of San Francisco. He established life-long friendships with many of his classmates and met his beloved wife of 61 years Barbara in college. He was a Navy veteran stationed in the South Pacific. He worked for General Electric Co. and in 1962 he started his own business Park Presidio Marine with friend Steve Lombardi. Joe was proud of his Italian heritage and loved to cook, travel, hunt and fish. He is survived by his sister Rosalie Scafidi Cirby and her children Theresa (Ed) Dunne, Stephen (Kris) Cirby, Catherine Cirby, Patrick Cirby and Angela (Jonathan) Allen, several great-nieces & nephews, Scafidi and Santa cousins and his sisters-in-law Katherine and Lisa Weiss. He was an active member of the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club (Man of the Year 2012), The Marin Bocce Federation and Italian Athletic Club of Marin. He generously gave his time as secretary, treasurer of the Galileo Alumni Association and with his wife Barbara to the SF Auxiliary to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
Services as follows: Viewing: July 1, 1:00 - 5:00 at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery & Mortuary 2500 Fifth Avenue San Rafael; Rosary and Funeral July 2, Rosary 9:30 Mass 10:00 at St Patrick's Church, 114 King Street Larkspur; Celebration of Life July 2 12:30 - 4:00 at San Francisco Italian Athletic Club, 1630 Stockton Street San Francisco.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salesian Boys' and Girls' Club of SF or the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health.
