Laurie Anger Obituary

Laurie Kirkpatrick Anger Died on September 15, 2010. She was born on May 16, 1952 in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in the Chicago suburb of Wilmette. She graduated with majors in cinema and journalism from the University of Southern California in 1975 and received her JD from Boalt Hall in 1980. She practiced law in the San Francisco area for 30 years and was a former partner in the law firm of Morgenstein and Jubelirer (now Schiff Hardin.) Laurie was a tough and accomplished trial lawyer; yet she was such a consummate professional that she counted among her friends not only her fellow workers and clients, but opposing counsel as well. In addition, she worked for the San Francisco and Marin County CASA programs, assisting troubled children, a calling that meant much to her. Laurie was intelligent, vivacious, generous, loyal and fun loving. She had a gift of drawing people out. She was full of love and gave so much of herself and so much of her vitality that others felt they were better people just by being around her. Laurie was devoted to her family and to her friends. She loved reading, travel, and socializing. She is survived by her sisters, Cathie Galloway (Mike), Ginny Hammond, and her brother Bill (Nancy), as well as nine nieces and nephews, and a large close knit extended family. Donations may be made in Laurie's memory to: CASA of Marin, 30 N. San Pedro Road, Suite 275, San Rafael, CA 94903. www.marinadvocates.org (donations may be made on the website, as well as by mail)

My wife and I went to high school with Laurie at New Trier. I remember her vividly from English class. She was gifted and pretty and full of life, one of the clear "winners" in life. We were shocked to hear that she had passed away. We always expected to see her again at a class reunion.

I remember Laurie from our swimming days, on the New Trier Guard in Winnetka, IL. I thought she was the most beautiful girl at New Trier East High School. She had a majestic smile and was full of joy. I can still hear her laughter. She was an angel.

I met Laurie just two years ago and learned that she was a passionate advocate for giving a voice to abused children. I referred Karen Khan's request for an Amicus Curiae Brief to the children's advocacy organization First Star and Laurie wrote a wonderful Friend of the Court Brief on behalf of protecting the abused children in that case. She was helping out Justice for Children with a case in California in August and September at the time of her passing. I will always remember and honor Laurie's warmth, joy, and especially her fierce commitment to serve children. Her loving heart can still be felt even now.

I met Laurie as a transfer student to Sears in 7th grade. She was in the "brainy" section, and had a huge smile. She was friendly and a young girl whom I looked up to since I just knew then that she'd be successful. I am so sorry to hear of her passing....

I am so sad to hear of Laurie's death. I grew up three houses away from Laurie and her family. I use to feed their cats when they were out of town. Laurie, Debbie and I had so much fun playing on their "summer porch", Laurie loved board games and loved to win. I will never forget when her father died suddenly, they were a beautiful family, her parents gave me a wedding shower in their back yard. I always loved being in their home, you always felt so welcomed.

I met Laurie in 5th grade at Joseph Sears School and felt how special she was even then . . . on the first day of school. She made a scared, awkward parochial school transfer student (me) feel welcome. I will always remember her smile, her sense of humor, her kindness, her brilliance. Rest well, my birthday buddy. Laurie was my first girl friend in the 6th grade. We double dated and saw Lawrence of Arabia at the Teatro movie theater in Wilmette at the Plaza de Lago shopping center. We went to the same church with our parents and the same grade school-Joseph Sears. I am very sad about this, but take solace in knowing from reading some of the memories and hearing how she is doing throughout the years that she had a wonderful and productive life. Tom Woodbury

"V" is my alphabetic choice that I feel defines the Vivacious Laurie I was privileged to have met via Lou and Chuck on a few West Coast Visits during the past several years. joi du VIVRE - VIBRANT - VULNERABLY STRONG - VENERABLY WISE - VALIANT -
are just some expressions that come to mind immediate when I sense her presence surfacing in my thoughts.
Stunned and saddened by her sudden passing reminds me to take stock and
reflect on a woman and indivudal I
was fortunate to meet, know even if briefly and luckily share laughter and some joyful dancing! Dance on Laurie!

I have been Laurie's trainer for the past 3 years. Her passing was sudden and she will be missed. We spent a lot of time talking about life and laughing together. I was so lucky to have had her as a client. I wish her family the best.

Laurie and I met at the University of Southern California. We didn't know each other for long, but I still remember her beautiful smile, great laugh, and keen intellect. It surprised me to learn that she lived just over the hill from me, but it was not a surprise to learn about her significant work for CASA - she must have been such a comfort and source of hope for her clients. I read with sadness of her passing. My condolences to her family.

My husband and I were in from Michigan visiting Lou and Chuck a couple of years ago. We were blessed in that time to share a wonderful, full evening with Laurie. Her positive energy and intellect was immediately apparent, and she made us feel as if we'd known her forever. Her home was a comfort zone within 15 minutes, that's how welcoming she was. What a GREAT smile! I'm so glad that we were able to enjoy the gift of her being. Our thoughts are with her community of spirit as they move through this difficult time together. I thank you Laurie for having Rick and I over for dinner, when we visited Chuck & Lou. As I recall, you were even more electronically challenged by computers than even I, but Lou saves our computers from our challenged ways. Chuck and I prepared the dinner and you asked me for gardening advice. The ease with which this all occurred, told me you were indeed a very close friend of theirs. It was nice to have met you, you will be missed. Rick & Ray in Cypress (Houston), Texas.
