Leonard Stone
We are saddened to announce the passing of Leonard "Len" Stone, who left us peacefully on July 23, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on May 1, 1928, to Walter and Margarite Stone, Len was a proud 4th generation San Franciscan, whose life was a testament to dedication, passion, and love for his family.
Preceded in death by his beloved brother, Harold Stone, Len's journey began and grew in the heart of San Francisco. A graduate of Lincoln High, he exemplified bravery and service by joining the Marines immediately after high school, proudly serving his country during World War II.
Len pursued higher education with determination, earning his MBA from the University of San Francisco. His professional career took him into the realm of corporate sales, working with esteemed companies such as Standard Oil and Wacker Chemical.
Len's career required several relocations, taking him and his family across the United States with periods spent in New York, San Carlos, New Jersey, San Mateo, and Hillsborough, where he eventually retired. Despite a busy professional life, Len always found time to indulge in his passions. A dedicated golfer, he served as President of the California Golf Club and was a loyal member for more than 40 years. He was also a wine connoisseur and a loyal San Francisco Giants fan.
In retirement, Len co-ran The Bicyclery in Half Moon Bay with his son, Richard, before making a comfortable home in Sonoma. There, he continued to share his love for golf, working as a starter at the Sonoma Golf Club. Len and his wife Marge finally settled back on the Peninsula in Redwood City.
Leonard's personal life was anchored by his loving wife, Margaret "Marge" Stone, and his family, including his four children: Janine Stone-Willin (Jamie), Richard Stone, Christopher Stone (Kate), and Patricia Stone. His legacy continues through his five grandchildren: Jennifer, Andrew (Emily), Jonathan, Ineka, and Jack, as well as his two great-grandchildren: Cecilia and Abigail, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy.
A celebration of Leonard's life will be held for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a
charity of choice, in honor of Len's generous and adventurous spirit.
