Lonnie Lawson Jr. was born in Demopolis, Alabama on June 15, 1936 to his parents Lonnie Lawson Sr. "Hammer" and Emma Richardson Lawson "Baby". At rest on May 16, 2022 at age 85. Beloved husband of Jurline Powell Lawson (deceased); father to Shirley Mae Carpenter, Lonnie Lawson III, Cynthia L. Lawson, Emmett L Lawson, Deborah L. Lawson, and Susan Lawson; brother to Issac, Willie, Carrie, Richard, and Rosia; stepfather to Audrey Eugene, David W. Johnson III, Cordell S. Johnson, and Elliott B. Johnson.
Lonnie served in the U.S. Army, worked as a civil engineer, and with Hetch Hetchy Water and Power. He had 20 years of service to the Park and Open Space Advisory Committee, also the Market Street Trolley Overhead Reconstruction. He received various awards from the City of San Francisco, was a photography buff, his neighborhood president, and a true "gadget guy". Lonnie lived as an example and believed you should always live up to your responsibilities.
Friends may visit on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 5pm-7pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, CA. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:00am, also at Duggan's. Burial at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma.

Lonnie was a huge presence in the Ingleside neighborhood and while I never met him personally I always appreciate the role the leaders of the community (Lonnie, Willie and Lovie Ward, Peter Vaernet, Mary (Kwanza's mom), Kwanza Morton, etc., played in the change in the neighborhood over the years. I'm sure I missed plenty of people in the brief list.
