Luke Chung Obituary

Luke Chung
09/09/1956 - 06/22/2024
Luke Joseph Chung passed on June 22, 2024 (67). Born and raised in San Francisco, he was the son of Burk and Mary Chung, brother to Amy and Michael Chung, and uncle to Adrian and Alison Chang. He lost his father in 2019. He also leaves a number of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Studying at St. Mary's Chinese Day School, Riordan High School, and S.F. State University, he worked at a TV station before returning to his family's business. He retired in 2012 as vice president of Chung Inc. (Superior Trading Company).
For his enjoyment and hobbies, he was a devout church goer to the St. Mary's Chinese Mission and Old St. Mary's Cathedral, as well as being a member of the musical group that played at the contemporary Masses. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar there and was very skilled in playing the piano. Before he experienced mobility issues, he would join his extended family from church in going to bible studies, retreats, hiking, and camping. He would invite those friends often to enjoy movie nights in his living room on weekends; sometimes he would do this at their home. Later in his life, he made a number of friends on social media, especially a group titled "Just for Fun in Chinatown" then recently renamed. He joined them for dining get-togethers and enjoyed conversations with a number of new friends with similar backgrounds.
Luke's passions were music, movies, and television shows, no surprise since radio and TV broadcasting was his major. He was a huge fan of the Beatles and his favorite TV show was M.A.S.H. while he enjoyed the Star Wars series and Star Trek TV and movie series dearly.
Luke was a carefree and happy person who enjoyed his hobbies and the companionship of his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cypress Lawn Mortuary on July 21, 2024 at 9 am in the Tiffany Chapel. The service will also be streaming.

Luke brought his love of music into our Masses and shared it with a smile. He touched many lives and memories will keep him in them. With sympathy.

I´m so sorry for your loss. I only knew him through the Steve Hoffman Music forum. A bright, knowledgeable and nice guy based on my interactions over the years.

RIP Luke. You will be missed!
