Marshall Figari Obituary

Marshall "Monte" B. Figari On April 18, 2011, Marshall B. Figari joined his beloved wife, Della and daughter, Janet, in Heaven. A long time resident of Tiburon, Marshall was born in San Francisco on December 2, 1921. He grew up in the Sunnyside district of San Francisco and attended Balboa High School, where he was a star prep football player. After graduating from the University of San Francisco, he completed midshipman's school for the U.S. Navy at Harvard and Northwestern. During WWII he served as a communications officer on the aircraft carrier escort, USS Sangamon, which played a critical role in winning the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Shortly after the war, he found both a successful career as an insurance broker (Marshall B. Figari Insurance) and his lifelong love, Della. Marshall was a loving husband, father and grandfather, dedicated Boy Scout leader, and avid outdoorsman. He is survived by his brother, Captain William V. Figari (Rita) of San Francisco, son, Robert M. Figari (Christine) of Woodacre, and grandchildren, Elyssa L. Figari and Brennan F. Figari. He also bids farewell to a host of other relatives, caregivers, employees and friends who will dearly miss his warmth, generosity and outgoing nature. Services were held at Old St. Hilary's Church, where he and Della were married, in Tiburon. In lieu of flowers, Marshall would want donations made to Marin Council, Boy Scouts of America or the National MS Society.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Marshall, but I coached his grandson, Brennan on the College of Marin swimming and diving team - a gifted athlete and outstanding young man. I thank Marshall for his service and sacrifice during WWII. My condolence to the Figari family.
