Sister Mary Imelda Kilkenny O.P.

Sister Mary Imelda Kilkenny, O.P. February 18, 1918 - November 24, 2007 Genevieve Kilkenny, born in San Francisco, entered the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael in 1938 taking the name of Sister Mary Imelda. She died peacefully in Our Lady of Lourdes Convent in San Rafael after a brief illness. Sister Imelda was educated at St. Vincent Ferrer Elementary School and High School in Vallejo and she earned her bachelors degree and teaching credential from Dominican College, San Rafael. Sister Imelda was inducted into the St. Vincent-St. Patrick High School, Vallejo, Hall of Fame in 2001. Sister Imelda taught and was principal in various schools throughout California and in Reno, NV. She served as Formation Director for the newest members of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and later as Pastoral Minister in St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton and Saint Mary's Hospital in Reno. In more recent years, she ministered at Our Lady of Lourdes Convent in San Rafael until her retirement. Sister Imelda is survived by her sister Mary Joan Glendening of Novato; her brother Paul Kilkenny of Pleasant Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers Frank, Tobias and Louis. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, November 28, 7:30 P.M. at the Dominican Sisters Center, 1520 Grand Avenue, San Rafael.
