Our beloved Matthew Shaw, born in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, Ireland, suddenly left us on August 1st. Matt was married to his loving wife Nualan for nearly 55 years.
Matt is sorely missed by his heartbroken family who are remembering him as a dedicated husband, devoted father, and selfless supporter of the Irish American community in the Bay Area. Matt's greatest accomplishment was with Nualan raising three amazing daughters: Alanna, Fiona, and Máiréad.
Matt is being remembered with love by his sons-in-law Chris, Steve, and Stephen and doting grandchildren Niamh, Ashling, Finn, and Keely. He is fondly remembered by his family back in Ireland including sisters Winnie and Maureen, and sister-in-law Kate. His life is also being celebrated in the Bay Area by Mary, Nessa, Deirdre L., Deirdre C., Shawn, Joey, Keira, extended family further afield, Brien, Dermot, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
Matt loved his Boxer dogs, had a lifelong dedication to the Kilkenny Cats, and had season tickets to the San Francisco 49ers for more than 50 years.

Friends are invited to attend a vigil service at 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at CROSBY - N. GRAY & CO., 2 Park Road, Burlingame. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 5:00 pm on Monday, August 12, 2024 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1313 Bayswater Ave., Burlingame.

its been one year since that phone call came to tells us that Matt had passed away. Those phone calls can bring good news or sad news, this was certainly the 'sad" news. I often think of him and I as everyone says his beautiful smile. His friendship was cherished by everyone. Matt I know you are in Heaven sitting alongside Jim and at enjoying his company once more.

I met Matt about 10 years ago. He was on a side of the family that lost connection many many years earlier. When we met there was an instant connection that came through. It is sad knowing that he's no longer with us.

Sorry to hear of Matt´s passing. My name is Paul Quinn I live in Boston. Originally from shotts in Scotland, my father was James Quinn a relative of Matt. I stayed on the yellow road in Matt´s father´s house many years back I stayed with his brother Tom in arclow. Deepest condolences from all the Quinns from shotts.

We met Matt on board the Viking ship Polaris cruising the fjords of Patagonia around the Horn. Though we didn't know him long, he was a delight to spend time with and a kindred travel companion. I share the observances of others who knew him well. I, too, loved his Irish brogue. He could read the phone book to me. We, too, loved his gentlemanly ways. We are so sorry that we were not able to meet again at Lake Tahoe, though we know he tried. Our best wishes to his family of which he was most fond and proud. He was a beautiful soul. I'm sure he is looking down upon both the North Star and the Southern Cross.

To Nualan and family, so sorry to hear of Matt´s death. I have very happy memories of Skiing with him and Jim up in Tahoe many years ago, he was so good at it I was absolutely amazed at his skill. We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Matt. He was a very kind and caring person and a wonderful family friend. He always had a smile on his face and kind words to share. He had such a deep love of the GAA and we loved hearing the phone ring after the All-Irelands to hear Matt's rundown of the games.
Matt was a very good support to our dad Robbie when he first moved to San Francisco. Robbie always talks about fond memories of Matt and the fact that he was always there with encouragement and guidance when he needed it most. Matt and Nualan made Robbie and Mary's time in San Francisco un-forgettable.
We are thinking of Nualan and all of Matt's family and friends at this difficult time. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Matt´s passing was a huge shock to all who knew and loved him. There is now a hole in our lives which will never be filled and the world is a sadder place now that he has gone. He will be sorely missed by all his Murtagh in laws in Australia. May Our Lord hold him in the palms of His hands. R.I.P.

It is with great sadness that I have learnt about the passing of Matt. He was probably one of the nicest people you could ever meet .he always had a smile on his face and his generosity was unbound. It was with such shock and sadness that Eileen and I learned of Matt´s passing. I speak not only for myself but many others when I say that we will never see the likes of Matt Shaw again! There are fellow Irishmen whom I really admire, respect, and look up to in a lot of ways but at the very top of that list is Matt Shaw. We Irish think a lot about death but nothing prepared us for the shock of learning that Matt was no longer with us. Unlike Matt most of us will not leave an indelible impression on those around us. A man of great patience, integrity, and compassion. A fine man, a family man and a friend. A true gentleman. When I was young I used to admire clever people but the older I get I admire kind people. None kinder that Matt Shaw. As well as having a great business acumen he had a big heart. As far as I am concerned there are never too many tributes to a great humanitarian like Matt Shaw. He was tolerant, modest, and always had an abundance of buoyant good humor that everyone who encountered him delighted in.
