Merrick was my friend, and a fine man who was generous with his affections. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. I extend my most sincere sympathy to his family.

I was blessed to have bet Merrick surrounded by his naval remembrances and pictures of family. I remember a strong man, with a firm handshake and a gentle smile. In a few brief moments, I knew he was extraordinarily proud of the office he held in his son Merrick's business. He never mentioned his career, only the accomplishments of his children. I could see the great difficulty he had negotiating the steps to his office and knew there was no place he would rather be - unless he could have his entire family with him.
I thank him for the contribution he made so that I might enjoy the freedoms I have. May he rest in the palm of God's hand, find peace through Our Lord, Jesus, and know the love of Mary and all the Saints until reunited with his family. In Christ, Vonne Joyce, Alamo
