Michael Windholz Obituary

Dr. Michael Windholz died December 10, 2024, after a brave ten-month battle with cancer. A lifetime resident of San Francisco, Michael was born March 19, 1947, to Czechoslovakian emigres- Lilly and Emanuel. He attended Presidio Hill School, the Cambridge School of Weston (MA), Menlo College, UC Berkeley (BA), SF State (MS), and attained his PhD from California School of Professional Psychology in 1978. He was one of the first psychologists in the U.S. to become a psychoanalyst and graduated from the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis (SFCP) in 1981. Michael worked at Boulder Mental Health Center, CO (1971-75), Menlo Park, VA (1981-83) and in private practice since 1980. He was a highly valued and dedicated faculty member at SFCP, the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California (PINC) and an Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF. At home in the wilderness, he was an avid backpacker, swimmer and river runner. Michael leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Sandra Salatich; daughters, Lily (24) and Eleanor (22); and sister, Suzanne Model; as well as friends, colleagues, and patients he cared about deeply. His sharp mind, sense of humor and generous heart are treasured and will be deeply missed.
