Patrick Brogan Obituary

Patrick Brogan
May 2, 1942 - Feb. 26, 2021
Patrick Brogan was born in Oakland on May 2, 1942 and died peacefully in his Calistoga home Feb. 26, 2021 after a battle with cancer.

Patrick graduated from Castlemont High in Oakland and joined the Marine Corps, later serving in the reserves. He worked as a merchant marine for the USNS troop ships during the Vietnam War transporting food and supplies to help the war effort. He received a bachelor's degree from Armstrong College of Business in May 1968 and met his future wife Kelley in the summer of 1969 in Tilden Park.

Patrick worked as director of operations for the Oakland Coliseum from 1969-1970 and was a successful entrepreneur, launching businesses like the Pacific Water Bed, 5-Star Amino Acids, Moongate, Patrick Productions, and PMA, an antiques and collector's fair held at the San Mateo Fairgrounds for 35 years.

After he and Kelley moved to Calistoga in the mid 1970's, Patrick became active promoting events at the fairgrounds including an Emma Lou Harris concert, dog racing and old time car racing. Patrick also helped build the Monhoff Center, worked on closing Oat Hill Mine Road to vehicles, and dabbled in real estate development.

"Dad credited his successes in life to his wife Kelley's business administration skills and to growing up 'as a fat white kid in East Oakland,' " shared his daughter Jill. "That's an exact quote from him and all he felt he needed to say."

Patrick is survived by his two children, Nate and Jill, his daughter-in-law April Beebe, two grandchildren, Leo, 12 and Elle, 7, all of Santa Rosa; also by his sister Linda and his brother-in law, Phillip Garbutt of Castro Valley. His wife Kelley predeceased him in 2015. He is also survived by several Brogan first cousins and their families.

Patrick's wit and good humor, his generosity, as well as his creative spirit, will be dearly missed by all.

There are no memorial services planned due to COVID 19.

Every few years I call my old friend on his birthday. I worked with Pat & Kelley at the PMA shows in the early `70s. I am saddened to learn of his passing...my deepest condolences to his family. May his memory be a blessing.

Patrick I will always remember how kind and encouraging you were to me, you shared your good humor and fun stories but most of all you were a good friend. You and Kelly have been thought of often over the years, and the memories of the 70’s in Oakland and Alameda, doing print ads with you both for your antique shows and the fun and laughter, don’t forget the pizza!! My heart goes out to your children and grandchildren. You both will always be in my heart and thoughts. Even though I wasn’t far away being in Petaluma and now Santa Rosa I wish I would have stayed in touch through the years. I kept thinking of you and Kelly and tonight discovered you both have gone on to be together eternally, you are and always will be the perfect match for each, other I love and will miss you both dear friends. My prayers and healing go out to your family. Your ole friend Joyce Swisher.
