Peter Cornyn Obituary

Peter Mortimer Cornyn
April 9, 1942 - June 9, 2021
Peter M. Cornyn died June 9, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. Peter was born April 9, 1942 as a third generation San Franciscan and the middle of five children born to his predeceased parents, Paul and Matilda Cornyn. Peter leaves behind his daughter Adriene Roche (Steve), son Gene Cornyn, his beloved grandchildren Madison Roche and Nicolas Roche and man's best friend, Jonnie. Peter was a devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his partner, Florence Chan.

Peter served his Country five years as a U. S. Army reservist. He was a graduate of SFSU with a degree in Accounting. He was a proud member of SFFD for thirty years mostly at Stations 3, 17 and 41 and retired a Captain. After joining the fire department Peter returned to SFSU and earned a second degree in broadcasting. While there, he was co-founder of Media Center for Peace.

Peter enjoyed life and spent many happy hours walking his dog with his neighborhood friends, attending Giants and 49er games, and spending time at Lake Tahoe with his family and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to SF Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation, 1139 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94103. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.

The man was a joy ... and pretty good with math...
when it came to 40 or 50 paying a bill at Niners games
... The man was a joy

I just found out about Peter and am very saddened by this news. He used to frequent a restaurant I worked at. He would always have a dog or two with him and was always great to chat with. Throughout the years, I got to know Peter and I really respected the way he carried himself and his views on the world. We´ve gone on some dog walks and he would tell me cool stories about his past. The last time I saw him was 2018 and I remember him saying he hadn´t had a good peach in a while and I had it in the back of my mind to bring him a good one from Oregon. Maybe he´s up there eating all the sweet peaches now.

There always seems to be something throughout the day that reminds me of Peter - that makes me happy. Gone but certainly not forgotten my friend.

I was so saddened to hear of Peter's passing. He was a friend and fellow dog walker for many years, 9am, Elkhorn Glen Lake. Peter was the kingpin and mainstay of our gang. He brought the water in his truck and all the dogs knew it.
Those were golden days, we were young (er) the dogs were young and life was sweet.
It was way too soon. I'll miss you Pete..
My sincere condolences to Gene, Adrian, Maddie and Nick.
With much love and great memories

My sincere condolences, Adriene and Gene. We have some wonderful memories of our times together with you and your father. San Francisco, and especially the 100 Block of Ortega Street now has a big void. Peter was a good friend and I will cherish the fond memories. I am very sorry he is gone.

My sincerest condolences to Pete’s family. Our family is so sad to hear of Pete’s passing. Almost everyday for the last 10 years we’ve had the unique pleasure of walking around Golden Gate Heights Park with Pete and his beloved Johnny (and Molly before she passed) and on occasion his granddog, Mishka. The park will not be the same without his wit, humor, and kind heartedness. Our family will miss him dearly.

Greetings Gene and Adrian and all of Peter's family. This is Paul Sheridan writing and I want to extend our family's condolences to all of you. We were stunned to know that Peter had passed. I have known him since I began delivering his newspaper when I was just 12. My wife and I were stunned because we knew Peter as this very healthy man who walked and ran and it seemed had barely aged a day in many years. I agree that he made the most of his retirement years. He was a neighborhood stalwart, you could always find him ready to stop for a chat and a great, lively conversation. He was genuinely interested in all the people around him, a man with a soul. Rest in peace Peter, see you on the other side. Paul Sheridan & Family
