Dear Rick,
Our lives were a happier place for the past two years. I will always cherish the many memories, especially our trips together. I know we had much, much more planned for years to come, but alas, it was cut short. Thank you for letting me be a part of your life and showing me the incredible man you were. I will always miss you and love you.
Love, Janet

It was with great sadness that we learned of Mr. Aster's death. Although we did not know Mr. Aster personally, my husband and I have trusted him like a friend. As modest shareholders in Meridian Fund since 1987, we have counted on Mr. Aster's intellect and skilled portfolio management. Thanks to his talent, we were able to purchase a home, help our kids with college expenses, and hope to some day retire. Mr. Aster's obituary reveals a man as much involved with his family and community as he was with his career. We send our heartfelt condolences to those who lost a father, a brother, and a friend.

I have nothing but good memories of my years sharing offices with Rick in the 70's and 80's. In addition we shared many hard fought tennis matches; a respect for Milton Friedman or "Uncle Miltie' as Rick would call him, and of course a continued fascination with the money game.

Goodbye, my friend.

Rick was one of my closest friends in high school and college. He was a groomsman in my wedding. Didn't see him much recently, but always enjoyed our occasional get-togethers. Too many memories of our fun times together to go into here, but they are memories I treasure.

I first met Rick in fifth grade and then re-united with him Clifton Middle School and Monrovia High. To this day, I remember his ornery sense of humor and his drive to do well - especially in math classes and basketball. I last talked with him at our class reunion in 2008. His influence as a friendly and kind and thoughtful person will be missed by many. He knew how to make a person feel important and relaxed around him while he remained humble.
