Richard Tassan Obituary

Richard Louis Tassan
August 30, 1941 - November 2, 2023
Richard died in San Leandro due to numerous, long-term health challenges. Dr. Donald Miller, his primary care physician, said he was a fighter.
Beloved son of the late Charles R. Tassan, Commander, USNR, and Lucy. Richard is survived by his son, Michael (Michelle) and his loving granddaughter, Avery, and grandson, Parker; brother of Robert Tassan (Andrea), niece Sara, and nephew Elijah; and numerous cousins. He always looked forward and loved visiting Michael, Avery, and Parker in San Diego.
Richard was an avid golfer, holder of two hole-in-ones, and a passionate fan of the Giants, 49ers, Warriors, and Sharks.
Richard attended local schools and was in the Capuchino High School Class of '59, where he competed in football, wrestling, and golf. Richard greatly enjoyed the Class of '59 annual picnics to reminisce and hear the most recent news of high school friends. He continued his education, receiving a BS at San Jose State College, and a PhD in entomology from U.C. Berkeley.
Richard was a research entomologist, specializing in biological integrated pest management in support of the California agricultural community. His entire 32 year career was at U.C. Berkeley/U.S. Department of Agriculture Experiment Station for Biological Control – Gill Tract, Albany.
The family wishes to recognize the medical/nursing staff of Satellite Health Center West – San Leandro and Kaiser Hospital – San Leandro for their respectful and compassionate care during Richard's illness, especially Dr. Wesley Lisker and Dr. Jennifer Johnson in the nephrology and rheumatology departments.
A private Casting Ceremony is being planned. A Celebration of Life for family and friends is also being planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to the Rheumatology Research Foundation or the American Kidney Foundation.
