Robert Kadas Memoriam

Dr. Robert "Bob" Kadas
May 1, 1941 - February 4, 2021
Dr. Robert Irwin Kadas, of Alamo, passed away one year ago, on February 4th, 2021, surrounded by his family. A father, grandfather, husband, brother, colleague, mentor and dear friend to many, Dr. Bob was a beloved pediatrician in the Valley, taking care of generations of families during his 40+ year career.

Born in Toronto, Canada in 1941, he moved to Los Angeles with his mother, Faye, and older sister, Carole, in 1947 following the death of his father, Harold. After graduating from UCLA in 1962, he then earned his medical degree from USC, followed by a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics. He then served for two years in the navy, working as the base pediatrician at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD. After his service, he returned to CA and settled in Alamo, where he continued to practice until his death last year.

During his career, Dr. Kadas held many positions, including CFO of John Muir Medical Group and on the board of directors of both John Muir Health Network and Symposium Medicus. In 2015, he was the recipient of the JMH Foundation Award of Distinction, which honors exceptional leadership and service. Most recently, he was an integral part of the development of the joint venture with Lucille Packard Children's Hospital to open a pediatric ICU at John Muir Walnut Creek, also serving as its first Medical Director, a project he was particularly proud of helping to bring to the East Bay Area he so loved. After his passing in 2021, The Robert Kadas Award was established and will be awarded annually to recognize outstanding physician leadership.
Outside of his career, Bob loved spending time with his family, especially with his daughters, of whom he always said were his life's greatest work. He enjoyed being a grandpa, playing golf, going to hockey games, laughing with his friends, traveling with his wife. Dr. Robert Kadas was truly a special person in the lives of so many, leaving behind an immeasurable impact.
He is survived by his wife, Bonni, four daughters, Nicole, Danielle, Kendra and Emily, and four grandchildren. A memorial service had been planned for today, but was canceled due to the ongoing pandemic. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CASA of Contra Costa County.

I had the pleasure to work with and spend time with Dr. Bob. I moved away from the SRV area in 2014, but stayed in touch with Bob through FB. He was a great man in so many ways! He was fun, intelligent, patient, and diplomatic. He adored his kids and was a proud grandpa! I was so lucky to know him.
