Robert "Bob" Thompson, 83, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 8, 2026, after celebrating his birthday with family at his home in Alamo.
He is survived by his wife, brother, three children, six grandchildren, and several close friends and additional family.
Winner of a "First Baby Boy of the New Year" award, Bob was born Jan. 1, 1943, to Vivian Boston and Robert Thompson in Atlanta, Georgia.
As the son of a teacher and engineer, he developed a life-long love of reading and graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech.
He entered the Navy after college and served as a nuclear officer during the Vietnam War.
It was while assigned to the USS Enterprise that he met a Bay Area native and fell in love. The two were married soon after at a ceremony in Sausalito.
He worked as a project manager at a few power companies and was a consultant before becoming a project manager at Embarcadero Systems Corp.
He loved travel, history, and was passionate about genealogy. Bob will be missed and kindly remembered by all who knew him.
