William Gary Turnley, of
Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully at Grace
Davis Hall Hospice House on March 8, 2026, at the age of 81. A
successful businessman known for his financial acumen, generosity, and
faithful service to his church and community, Gary lived a quiet life marked
by curiosity, love of nature, and dedication to those around him.
Gary was the son of the late Dr. William H. Turnley and Dorothy Turnley.
At the young age of six, he began training to become an altar boy at Grace
Episcopal Church in Ocala, an early experience that reflected the faith
that would remain a guiding presence throughout his life.
He was a lover of nature, an avid hiker, and enjoyed international travel
with his wife. Among their favorite journeys were trips to Ireland, England,
and Switzerland. Curious by nature, Gary especially enjoyed learning
about plants and trees and often delighted in sharing that knowledge with
others.
Gary lived a quiet life of service and professional success, with his beloved
wife, Pam, always at his side. In 1990, the two began a successful real
estate business, P & G Properties in Ocala. Pam was the face of the
operation-the "people person"-while Gary was the one savvy with
numbers and making things run smoothly. Together they formed a well-
balanced team. Gary and Pam have been faithful members of St. Martin's
Anglican Church in Ocala, where he had served as Treasurer.
Gary and Pam met in 1980 when he served as Campaign Manager for
the successful election of Judge Carven Angel. Pam attended the
election celebration party where they first met. After nearly four years of
courtship, they were married on March 17, 1984, at Grace Church in
Ocala, Florida. Gary also worked with the election team for Tax Collector
Mac Olson. He also was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans-
Artillery Camp No. 1396.
Gary was a graduate of Asheville School, Asheville, North Carolina, Class
of 1963. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from
Georgia Tech in 1970 and later earned a Bachelor of Science in
Accounting from the University of Florida in 1981.
In 1971, Gary was drafted into the United States Navy, where he attended
Officer's School and served as a Disbursing Officer aboard the USS
Vulcan from 1971 to 1975.
In 1987, he received his certification as a Certified Public Accountant.
During the mid to late 1980s he worked with the accounting firm Duggan,
Joiner, Stafford & Furman, P.A., before later beginning his own business
ventures.
Gary and Pam also cherished their time in the mountains of North Carolina,
enjoying many summers at their Cashiers home known as "The
Nest." During those summers they were active at St. Patrick's Anglican
Church in Brevard, North Carolina, where he once again put his early
church training to use, serving as an Acolyte.
Gary was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dorothy and William
H. Turnley, M.D.; his half-sister, Patricia Rose; and his niece, Merri
(Rose) Pittman.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela D. Turnley; her son, Andrew
Wires; two nieces; one grandniece; and three grandnephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 10:00
a.m. at St. Martin's Anglican Church, 1000 NW 70th Street, Ocala,
Florida, with the Rt. Reverend David Sokol officiating. Following the
service there will be a reception held at the Turnley Home, 1208
Southeast Fifth Street,
Ocala, Florida. Arrangements are under the care
of Robert's Funeral Home, Ocala.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to one of the
many organizations Gary held dear, including Hospice of Marion County,
Ocala Civic Theatre,
Shriners Hospital, Marion County Humane Society, or any
church or religious or military organization of choice.
"May he rest in peace and rise in glory."
