Roy Skover passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023, in San Francisco, California. Roy was a devout Christian and loved his Lord Jesus Christ. Roy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Roy was a kind and generous man and was renowned for his warm smile and engaging personality, which won him many lifelong friendships.
Roy was born May 19,1926 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Nikolai and Elsie Skover. The family moved to California in 1930 and eventually settled in Cloverdale, California where they purchased a dairy which became the family run business. Roy first met his future wife, Irene, when his family traveled to San Francisco to attend the Russian Baptist Church on Potrero Hill. Upon graduating from Cloverdale High School in 1944, he was drafted into WW2 and served in the Navy.
Using the GI Bill upon his discharge, he attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1950 Roy came to San Francisco and married his childhood sweetheart, Irene Zarubin.
Roy and Irene settled in San Francisco. They became supportive, committed parents and raised their six children. They were happily married for 71 years. Roy had a satisfying career spanning 60 years selling air conditioning equipment, additionally Roy and Irene invested in San Francisco Real Estate.
They both were active and devoted members of First Covenant Church of San Francisco for over 70 years where Roy was a deacon, president of the Covenant Men's Group, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and member of the hospitality team.
Roy is predeceased by his wife Irene; sister, Eleanor, and youngest son Thomas. Roy leaves behind five children, Timothy, Gregory, Jeffery (Colleen), Sandra, Melanie (Timothy); eight grandchildren, Nick, Sophie, Corinne, Jenna, Rachel, Daniel, Michelle, and Scott; six great-grandchildren, Avery, Clarity, Maddison, Ella, McKenzie, Noah and many nieces and nephews.
Roy is survived by his two brothers, Frank (Pat) of Sacramento and Robert of Novato.
Friends, church members, and family are invited to attend the Viewing and Funeral at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City. Viewing will be held on April 14 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and the Funeral Service on April 15 at 11:00 am.
